Penn - today at noon

Post by Cluck U »

Delaware plays at Penn today at noon on ESPN+.

Penn comes into the contest with a 1-1 record after losing 12-9 to #5 Georgetown (in a game that was closer than the score) and getting a 15-10 win on Tuesday against #15 Albany. Didn't watch the Albany game, but Penn looks solid...except for losing sight of G'town's star player, who lit them up for 7 goals in Penn's season opener last weekend.

Penn's Davis Provost (a career path?) has been active scoring 4 goals on 10 shots against Albany (with an assist) and 3 goals on 6 shots and an assist against G'town. Griffin Scane (not making these names up) scored 2 goals at Georgetown and 4 against Albany, while Ben Beacham added 2 goals in each game and Jackson Maher had a goal against the Hoyas and 2 against Albany.

Ethan Costanzo is their main FO guy, going 11-16 against Albany and 7-10 against G-town. I believe the Hens have faced him before, but that was with our veterans. Have to do a decent job at FO in order to stay in this game. Their goalie as about a 50-50 guy, but he had little chance against G-town's Conner, who was left wide open for several easy shots.

Penn pressured Georgetown (18-22 on clears), but Albany was 18-19, so not sure how Penn played the ride in that game.

Gotta' clean up our clears and put the ball on goal.

Wonderful weather today, so no excuses.

Lots of the same issues that were already discussed in previous games. Down 8-2 at the half and Penn is better in every phase right now. Just work on getting better and go from there.

Another ugly game.

Holy smokes, we can't clear and we went 0-12 on face offs in the second half. Still misfiring. The D gets lost sometimes. Poor communication on this team.

And...we are slow...several Penn guys simply went around our defenders with little trouble.

This is looking to be a very challenging year and some of our new conference mates look to be tough. Richmond is #6 and looking impressive. UMass is 3-1. St. Joe's has two wins against ranked teams.

The good news regarding our opponents?

St. John's has won two games, including Hofstra today.
Drexel continues to win and is now 3-0.
Maryland is now 1-2 after losing 13-12 to #12 Princeton.

The bad news?

We lost badly to Penn.
nova, our next opponent, who beat #10 Penn State earlier, gave #19 Rutgers a game before losing 8-7.
St. Joe's beat #14/16 ranked Villanova last week and just beat #16/17 Towson.
Richmond goes to 4-0 with a 16-7 win over Lehigh.

Next weekend's home tilt against nova looks to have beautiful weather with mid-50's and sun. Of course, we could be buried in 18 feet of snow with the panic forecasts for Sunday/Monday.
