If he was one of the ones that was refusing to play, I don’t don’t let the door hit you on the way out!!DaveB wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2026 11:48 am In Portal Not surprised

Re: Reilly
Certainly quite expected because there was no way he could return to UD. For all that he may have done in his first four years, he will be remembered for refusing to play in 25-26 and quitting on his teammates, coaching staff and fans.
Re: Reilly
What was his explanation for NOT playing? Just curious
Re: Reilly
I dont think Reilly was ever pointed out specifically for not playing but comments suggest certain players didn’t want to play.
that leaves :
Reilly
Nnanna
Piper
Brown
Assuming Reilly was paid this year, how does a school protect itself from future situations?
what happens with Houser next year if he is out due to injury? Is he still paid?

I think you may have posted this, but process of elimination led it to Nnanna and Reilly. Brown and Piper were still allowed to travel with the team.DaveB wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2026 3:16 pm I dont think Reilly was ever pointed out specifically for not playing but comments suggest certain players didn’t want to play.

Re: Reilly
Wow has College Athletics changed. Sad stuff.
Re: Reilly
NIL payments for college athletes generally continue even if a player is injured or, in some cases, decides not to play, as NCAA rules prohibit NIL compensation from being tied directly to performance or participation. However, because NIL deals are legal contracts, consequences depend heavily on specific contract language, and athletes may face reduced future opportunities or issues with "vague" clause enforcement. In short, it depends on the language in the specific NIL contract the player has signed and there is no universally-approved format. Consequently, of course, many disputes will end up in court and then precedents become de facto regulations.

Re: Reilly
How does his eligibility work? Like is he getting a medical redshirt
Re: Reilly
He is now a free agent with one year of eligibility left and can accept the NIL deal of his choice. The NIL money he received from UD stays in his wallet. That is how the system currently works. It certainly is a ripe target for abuse by players and/or their agents, but it is legal. Schools with limited NIL funds for basketball are not competing on a level playing field. At UD, football currently gets about 80% of all NIL money (according to AD Skolnick). Want to change that? Find more generous donors who will restrict their gifts to the basketball program.LifetimeHensFan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2026 11:10 pm How does his eligibility work?
