7’0 260 C from St. Joes. Has had some trouble staying healthy, but can’t teach that size. Four star recruit coming out of high school.

Ideally there is another more pick and pop type center we are bringing in to platoon with Solano. Not sure he is a 30 mpg guy but love the size

Now that’s some beef…LOL. Hopefully he turns out to be better than the last Big 5 low post transfer we got. I can’t imagine it could possibly be worse…

I shot my buddy who is well connected with St Joe’s a note asking for his thoughts on this kid. I’ll report back with his observations.

“ No idea. When he came in as a frosh he played about 6 or 7 games and was a surprise. Then suddenly he had a health issue and was out the whole year. But he never played much last year either. Has upside but who knows…”

UD loses too many players to health/injuries without signining any more that have had previous health/injury issues in HS or college. For that reason, I do not agree with the Steven Solano transfer.

Have to take some chances at our level. If Solano doesn’t get hurt, he’s not even available for UD. Former 4 star recruit, great size, I take this chance 10/10.

Exactly right…no chance UD gets a sniff at this kid without some question marks. I’m fine with taking a flyer on him. You can’t build your entire roster with players with past injuries, but a few with high ceilings is worth taking a few shots. Fingers crossed we aren’t disappointed yet again…

I would rather sign a middling rated player who has no history of health/injury issues. UD has a history of getting burned by singing players with a history of health/injury issues.

I’d rather have a chance to have a successful season. Middling won’t do that, no matter how healthy they are.

Agree again…middling isn’t gonna get it done and MI knows that. He’s got one more season to get things on the right track. If he doesn’t show significant improvement next year his run at Delaware will almost certainly be over. He can’t have a roster full of question marks, but rolling the dice on a couple of high level kids who just haven’t had things click yet for whatever reason almost has to be part of the recruiting process for mid-majors.

I would say that the chances of the new additions with histories of injuries and/or personal problems being OK for at least one full season of Basketball at UD are slim and none. As I stated in a different thread, Christian Bliss had “personal” problems at UVA before transferring to UD. I believe he worked out well for UD.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough. As I mentioned previously, this is very likely MI’s last chance to “get things right”. Overall, I like what the staff has done this off-season with a nice mix of proven commodities sprinkled in with some higher-level “potential”. But to Bill’s point, the best ability is “availability”. Having said that, at our level you simply have to take a couple of flyers and hope for the best. I’d love to see at least one more experienced post player, so hopefully they aren’t done yet.

hope things pan out, but I'm not a strong advocate for signing players with issues like injuries, personal, limited PT or production. Gambling is a dangerous endeavor. This NIL issue is not a newbie and a decent number of coaches have adjusted to this new order successfully- not so much our bball programs. Hard to "keep the faith" when this year's recruits have some baggage!
