Well, don’t know who saw that coming - Hens win a scoring fest at 19-16. Very entertaining game but a little too tight at times for my taste. Hens ahead 9-7 at halftime but came out flat in the 2nd half. SB tied the game at 9-9 but never took a lead. . It was tight but it seemed the Hens had the game in hand; it also seemed that coach was rotating more players in this final home game of the season.
UMass beat Hobart today and St. Joe’s lost to Richmond. Hens will need a big effort at St. Joe’s this coming Friday - win, or lose by only one (according to UD Hoops post in Recruiting), to make the A10 playoffs.

Re: St. Bonaventure
Here’s the lead entry on bluehens.com —-“. NEWARK, Del. – Scott Conte won 26 faceoffs, the most in a single game in the country this season (more than the 21 the HPU guy won against UD, Conte went 2-17 against him) and tied for the third most in program history, as the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team bested St. Bonaventure, 19-16, on Saturday at Delaware Stadium. The Fightin' Blue Hens have now won four-straight games, improving to 5-7, 3-2 A-10, while the Bonnies drop to 4-9, 0-5 A-10.”
The great Alex Smith won 26 FOs against St. Joe’s in 2/07. (The Hens used to always play St. Joe’s early in the season in those years - and they owned them.) Smith also won 27 FOs in other games in ‘’06 and ‘07. Smith was the 3rd overall pick in the MLL draft in 2007 and was the MLL Rookie of the Year in ‘07. The one problem with Conte’s wins today is that the ball was turned over at least 4 times directly after the wins. Hoping Conte matches Alex Smith this coming week and the Hens whoop St. Joe’s.
Talking about the past, I thought I saw the ghost of Grant Owens score a goal today.
As for the Hens winning streak - some lesser rated teams but also, I think, a maturing of the team that mostly found its identity. It would be an awesome result to win a spot in the A10 playoffs. The defense needs to get back to its disciplined, organized all team effort - can’t count on the goal scoring explosion seen today.
