Well, it was a beautiful day to be outside. That’s the end of it though. I really have loved watching the men play for years now but this team, this game, was a lesson in frustration. The box score says the Hens won 3 FOs to HPs 21. In reality, the Hens maybe had 1 or 2 FO wins (in Q4). They started every possession on defense. Add in a big discrepancy on ground balls (20-40) and a real difficulty to score and you get another loss. This is going to be real tough to turn around, not just this year but also moving forward into the future. There is just so much to address .

Curious where they went wrong? Coach Deluca has always put together really competitive squads any ideas what the issue is this year?

2 or 3 really good freshman and a transfer or two can make a huge difference in lacrosse.

Much better discipline is needed and better shot selection.

Face offs have been an issue for way too long and there really is no excuse to be this weak in them
for so many years.

I still think Deluca is a solid coach but this year is a disaster. Hope he’s not checked out.

It’s hard to recruit with only 2 or 3 wins.

To add a little positivity, the ground ball discrepancy isn’t as bad as it looks. When you pick up the ball on a faceoff it counts as a ground ball. So the ground balls during non-face off play were relatively close.

Richmond & High Point (both relatively small private colleges) had their first Men's Lax seasons in 2013 & 2014. UD's first Men's Lax season was in 1948.

There are so many teams that sadly make the same comment about Richmond.

Chrissi gave him a fat check (extension) on her way out and he took his foot off the gas pedal

I don’t believe that fits Coach Deluca’s character. I think the age of NIL and easy transfer is hurting programs like the Blue Hens but they really should be able to compete better against HPU and many other programs. The program needs a competitive FOGO and a dodging attacker. We miss players that we had a few years ago like Ty Kurtz, JP Ward, Mike Robinson and the Acchione brothers, there are very few legitimate scorers on the current roster. Canadian box lax attackers were very good for us. Team speed and offensive ingenuity seem to be lacking.
