Thanks for the post and the interview. It is obvious JS is well spoken, and credit to him for doing a one hour interview, but he really didn't say anything that unexpected. There was nothing revalatory. The "being proud" of the team made me nauseus since he said it so much. Obviously he is sticking with MI and most of us are not surprised by that due to the $$ (and many, like myself, disapointed). But one thing that I didn't expect to hear was his defense of scheduling non D-I schools. Worse, he said "a couple of them". The only reason he cited was to "build momentum". Really? That did so much for us this past year....NOT!! He talked about getting fans into the building. Well who wants to go see the Wilmington Universities and Miseracordias of the world? At least he acknowledged that the fans don't want them - but that is at odds with him wanting more fans to attend the games. I think he was really off base with that one.

Every school schedules non D1, im pretty sure we were the only CUSA school that only had one on the schedule. Everyone else had 2-3 . Liberty had 3

I don’t like it either but it’s not a UD thing

Why hasn’t a HC job offer come along? Even at a low D1.

Not saying he couldn’t be a good HC candidate but if for some reason MI moves on, not 100% in on Pegues.

All time greats do not equate to great HC all the time. Just ask JMU and their Dillard era Flip side you have Speedy at Hofstra who has done well
Jumping in with DaveB here.

15 years and no promotion to head coach? That leaves big questions. I've had several really solid employees that were not going to get the next promotion...they were really good at what they did, but they just didn't have that final piece.

Well, MI was an assistant for 14 years before he became a head coach. There isn’t much of a risk bringing in a new coach coming off two 20 plus seasons and a sub .500 career record. Brining in an all time great who has been an assistant at bigger time schools, including interim HC at Louisville should certainly be considered.

While I don’t disagree that many schools schedule non-Division I games, I’ll never understand the logic in scheduling more than one. They really do nothing for you. Beating a Wilmington U by 30 does zero to help you prepare for conference play, and losing is even worse…as we did this season. We could go 0 and 13 in non-conference and it will have no impact in our ability to make the tournament. I would much prefer to challenge the team during the non-conference portion of our schedule. We don’t need to play all Power Conference schools, but at least 2 (preferably 3). Challenge the kids, build some excitement for fans and alum, and really prepare the team for CUSA play. But start by increasing the talent level!!

Regarding Pegues, obviously love him as a player and what he did for the UD Basketball Program, but not sold on him as a head coach. I suppose he couldn’t be much worse than our past 3, so wouldn’t be completely opposed to it. Getting him back as an assistant could possibly light a fire under MI’s butt, so maybe that would be a good thing. But please no more excuses. Time to get it done and start winning more consistently!!!

As to the rest, yeah, that's just what this program needs. The thought that our program is in such a losing position that we should be willing to take a chance on a guy based on emotion is not exactly a winner's mindset. That's called settling for blah...the very thing fans are tired of seeing from small minded Delaware.

All I actually wrote was “should be considered”? Do you work on a farm and harvest straw to build all the strawmen? But yeah, MI has been a failure.

Nah..."should be considered" is not, "All" that you actually wrote...you're actual quote is right up there...^^^^^complete with, "all time great" stuff that has zero to do with someone's ability to coach. No strawman involved...just you and your quote.

No it’s a strawman for sure. And being the interim HC at Louisville and assistant coach at a lot of schools has “zero to do with someone’s ability to coach”??? Hummmm And Mike P is an all-time great. Right? Nobody said that has anything to do with coaching ability. Just one of many strawmen in such a short post.

Anyway, when was the last hoops game you went to?

Bliss and Fernandez are both in the transfer portal. Probably already mentioned. Just wonder how much it would have cost to keep them at Delaware?

One probably way more than they ever going to get from us two did they even want to stay in no matter how much money was who knows? I would like to think so because they did play hard even one times were tough, but they may have been doing so to improve their stock and not because they enjoyed playing for Martin.

There are a lot of Martin Ingelsby haters out there. I would like to see his results if we would spend the money to get better players to come here and then spend the money to keep them here. He has to coach with his hands tied.

I guess he’s had his hands tied for the past 11 seasons??? No one expects MI to compete against Power Conference schools head to head, but he sure as heck needs to be much better against his peer schools…starting with in-conference. A well below .500 conference record for his career is just not good enough.

The Monmouth women were 21-12 (12-6 in CAA). They beat UNCW in the second round of the CAA tournament before losing in the quarterfinals.
They won a first round game over Lehigh in the WNIT and then lost to Cleveland St. in the second round.
Probably not as bad as you thought.

Monmouth lost 5 players to the portal and 2 to graduation/eligibility.
