Utah - Moved to Wilmington: Friday (today), 12:30pm

Post by Cluck U »

Figured I'd start a game thread.

As per bhbk's link in the other thread:

NEWARK, Del. — Due to low temperatures and for player health and safety, the University of Delaware men's lacrosse season opener against Utah on Saturday, January 31 has been moved to Friday, January 30 at 12:30 p.m. inside the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Del., it was announced Thursday.

As a result of the location change, the game will now be closed to the public and will not be broadcasted. Fans can follow along with the game on live stats and the Delaware men's lacrosse X account.

Delaware men's lacrosse season ticket members can exchange their tickets for the game against Utah for additional tickets to any remaining 2026 Delaware men's lacrosse home game. Those that have purchased single game tickets to the Utah game can exchange their ticket for any upcoming 2026 Delaware men's lacrosse home game. Contact the Delaware Athletics Ticket Office with any questions by emailing athletics-tix@udel.edu.

Actually happy for the kids...it would have been brutal out there.

Bummer there will be no fans allowed. Ticket office said the venue was too small. I'm sure there were other considerations, too.

According to the Utah mother last night on Instagram, their players will be arriving today and having a quick turnaround from the airport to play. Sheesh. Welcome to Delaware, the frozen tundra. Both teams will be unfamiliar with the facilities. Should be an interesting game that will count in the standings but not sure how much it will say about either team.

If they are moving inside, why are they changing the date?

Probably the date that the facility is available.

I hope they’ve made special accommodations for parents to watch the game.

Is it an issue with clearing the field of the snow with the 3 inches of sleet on top? Or are they really moving the game inside because it will be 24 degrees? Heck, I played and sled in the snow with grandkids for over 2 hours.

I know the live film isn't great, but the defense looks to be picking up from the same spot as last year, a little slow and getting lost a bit when Utah is in the offensive sets.

I thought like this until UD Hoops educated me that the sticks don't handle collisions in verging-on-extreme cold well; they could conceivably snap and be a hazard with that. I also don't know if the pads are conducive to layering for 24 (more likely below). UDH, correct me on anything I'm off on here.

Worked for the 1st half.

Livestats is frozen with 5:03 left in the third, but we've scored since (according to Twitter).

I was gonna ask if this is a regulation sized field but it doesn't seem that there is much room behind the goals.

11-19 on clears...then finished 4-4 (but that wasn't against their starters) to finish 15-23. Again, poor decision making...little cohesion. Utah finished 18-21.

FOs: 11 of 27 (40.7%) for the freshman...0-1 for our other guy.

We were slow (again). Sorry...but there it is. Looked as though we were the team getting off the plane.

Utes were very good in transition and made us pay for our mistakes.

For the optimists...as one X commenter said, Richmond got blown out by Maryland and it worked out for the Spiders.

Kudos for Kevin Brown for airing the game (thanks, bhbk for the initial link). Strange that UD couldn't have gotten someone from the communications department to make an effort with an iPhone. Perhaps there was some contract issue that prevented UD from airing it themselves.

Feb 28th is the next home game (although there are local-ish games at Drexel and Penn in between...along with a trip to St. John's).
