I’m sure our time will come (though hopefully not), but Liberty, Missouri State and New Mexico State have already lost some key players to the portal.

The JMU AD gets it. I would not worry if I was a fan.77HEN wrote: ↑Mon Dec 01, 2025 6:29 pmWill be interesting to see who gets the job. JMU has had quite a run with Cignetti and then Chesney. Coastal Carolina hired Missouri State’s head coach as their next head coach. We play Coastal at home next year. I guess the pay at Coastal is substantially more than at Missouri State.

More than double. Mo State is still trying to catch up. They have Too Many Sports (like UD).
They are also paying their Basketball coach way more than FB--a mistake IMHO.
Re: CUSA Football general news, info, Etc....
need to increase stadium seating capacity, find a wealthy donor(s), or cut non essential sports though we recently added ice hockey
if we want the improved conference and performance many of us diehards would love to see. I'm waiting to see the commitment and will then increase my contribution. Will others - I would hope so, but if not, forget about a step up.

Re: CUSA Football general news, info, Etc....
Why push for increased seating capacity right now when :
1) we have an aging fanbase and father time is ticking
2) the younger generations priorities have changed and they aren’t really excited about coming into what Delaware Stadium is today… are they? Nope
What I would do is build a multi level mezzanine terrace like structure in the NEZ …. If you want, incorporate a few thousand seats above it but definitely plan it for adding future seating if demand shows up
Kind of like a Beer Garden/ Food courtyard …. Gotta have good food and cold cerveza
Needs fast internet connectivity
Needs multiple TVs (Sports only)
Comfort with a touch of luxury
Maybe a heated pool with a neon lit Blue and gold log flume like plunge from the 5th level right down right onto the playing field for our cheerleaders … or YouDee
Needs to be connected to the main stadium so fans can stroll over easily … maybe they won’t go back to their seats or better yet, you charge em 20 bucks if they want to stay … you tell me
Maybe one of the levels could be corporate premium boxes …. Charge em big bucks too so they won’t forget their rich
Multi-levels in case it really catches on and becomes “the place to be”
Just seems like xtra seating is a hard sell right now and UD won’t mention it

Your post got me thinking…if we are not consistently selling out seats, why add more? Thus, the more creative idea for the NEZ adds something “different” to hopefully attract more fans.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri Dec 12, 2025 1:49 pm Why push for increased seating capacity right now when :

It's unfortunate but I think it would be best if UD reduced the numbers of it's NCAA sports. We're not quite Stanford. And if UD is counting pennies then all the programs will come out looking worse if the resources are spread too thin.
I hope you're not joking Caribbean Hen because your proposal for a multi level mezzanine structure is exactly what Delaware stadium needs to bring it up to current standards. It would have to seamlessly fit in with the existing seating in order to give it a "big time" feel but it would definitely add a level of enthusiam for going to games that is currently missing. This kind of addition would require forward thinking that up to this point has not been seen in the UD athletic department.
But I was afraid they'd never reclassify as FBS so there's hope yet.

They could take the net down for xtra points and FGs and put a hoop with net (basketball) up on the mezzanine, give the ole three pointer a different kind of feel and remind everyone they still play basketball at Delaware…. work some kind of corporate advertising into it…. A prize for everyone in attendance… either a free beer or a pizza or something, of course it wouldn’t be free for someone but little things like thatCaldwell Chicken wrote: ↑Fri Dec 12, 2025 2:00 pmYour post got me thinking…if we are not consistently selling out seats, why add more? The idea here is that a FG is nothing but net

Keep the ideas going…one thing that was very cool at Wake Forest was the large amount of food trucks inside stadium fencing. There was something for everyone in terms of food and beverage and a very neat idea.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri Dec 12, 2025 2:29 pmThey could take the net down for xtra points and FGs and put a hoop with net (basketball) up on the mezzanine, give the ole three pointer a different kind of feel and remind everyone they still play basketball at Delaware…. work some kind of corporate advertising into it…. Colorado has had some food trucks inside stadium fencing but not as many as WF.
Not saying UD has to do food trucks but it is different and may help attract folks who don’t want a hot dog or soft pretzel.

You somehow incorporate the great history of Delaware football into the stadium experience … using technology and dare I say AI, into an experience that is not only unforgettable, but inspires curiosity in the unknowing
I can remember a ride at Disney World in 1978. It was sponsored by Eastern Airlines and it was free and it was pretty good for its time. it was a little tram that took you on a tour of the world with brief movie clips of places that Eastern airlines flew to ( didn’t know that at the time)
Incorporate actual clips of some old Delaware football games into a memorable experience much beyond football
Imagine yourself walking across the field with 360 imagery all around you, you’re standing right next to Tubby Raymond during a game, you can hear the crowd… you can hear Tubbys headphones….
Using modern AI your on the field, where the opposing middle linebacker stands during one of Delaware’s classic wing T plays, I’m talking about a real play in a real game… it feels real and the possibilities are endless
Now you’re standing on under the stadium as the band approaches as a they are marching into the stadium and the sound is unbelievably crisp as they march on by
Your at midfield on green grass with a 360 view of a sold out Delaware stadium. The place is rocking and the ground starts shaking… A Colgate player is helped off the ground
1947 cigar bowl
The boardwalk bowls
1972
1974 UNLV game show em Beasley and Roberts
1979 Scott Brunner to Jay Hooks vs Youngstown… a brief shot of the scoreboard displaying the final score and a national championship
Gannon
Conti
KC hoists the trophy in Chattanooga … he smiles
10 minutes at the most….
You also incorporate this presentation as a requirement for all incoming students as a part of their indoctrination. Attendance required for UD employees… and all Professors

... and then the following solemn words are blasted over the PA with Morgan Freeman, or the late David McCullough, (Class of '01's graduation speaker for those keeping score at home, thanks AI), or a distinguished UD grad, as the narrator stating:
"Our traditions are what bind us together as one, as Blue Hens, forever ..."
.... and then the Hens with black jerseys and helmets run to the sideline while the drumline practices on a faraway field for a two-song halftime show that starts in 120 minutes (150 minutes if the game is on a Wednesday on ESPN2).
Bottom line: Just win, baby. No matter what the stadium looks like or how the seats are laid out/designed, there will still be plenty of empty ones when the ball is kicked off for the first and third quarters. The team has lost in front of sold out crowds and won "when you could hold archery competitions in the East Stands." Just win.
