Nice piece by Kevin.
And there's this from UD (paid subscription not necessary for those on a strict budget):

Mr. Gorbach...err...Mr. Tressolini, tear down that pay wall! Think of the poor folks! The Newark Public Library is closed for the rebuilding effort...too many people left out in the information desert.Bluewyn Gold wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:51 am Nice piece by Kevin.

Personally, I don't subscribe to the local rag because I don't have a bird cage. Damned shame...it used to be packed full of good writers and excellent information. Kevin can still put out some solid Hens coverage, but the rest...no thanks. My neighbor looks out for the Hens articles and sends them over...but they are also thinking about canceling their subscription. Very little quality information to be found, and the whole 5 pages is simply a print version of MSNBC.

Re: Spring Practice
Article on Skolnick and Christi’s status was just posted in front of the pay wall.
Re: Spring Practice
“The university has, however, not permitted Skolnick to speak with the media as he takes over the leadership position.”
A sentence from KT’s article. Nothing like getting off to a bad start UD with the new/interim AD. Seems to me that UD is loosing the momentum gained from the FBS announcement everyday.

Since the topic came up -- again -- newspapers were never free, and an on-line subscription is actually very economical:

Never free? Well, the Newark Post would like to have a word.ktres wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:55 pm Since the topic came up -- again -- newspapers were never free, and an on-line subscription is actually very economical:

I get it though...different business model. Newspapers cost money to produce, and some were, and still are, worth the price of subscription. The News Journal is not one of them. Back in the day, many, "newspapers" were simply company town owned drivel...positive press published by friendly hands in a one paper town. Seems as though we've gone back to that time.
Imagine being right in the middle of everything...and not publishing anything of value. No investigations, no questioning...just belching talking points. Parroting is not reporting. Unbelievable lost opportunity for true journalism.
Thank goodness for independent journalism happening elsewhere.
Speaking of which, why doesn't GoHens have a donation button?

Re: Spring Practice
I still get the News Journal delivered. And so do several of my friends. It covers local stuff fairly well, especially high school sports. And of course, KT does a good job.
I find it kinda funny, but very typical of someone to criticize the NJ while admitting they don’t read it.
One thing the NJ could do is bring back allowing comments to articles. They cancelled that a while back saying it was too hard to moderate. So I go to our local NewsBreak for that. Not only do I get to read more local stuff, I get to read the crack pot and hateful comments from those that are in the vast minority viewpoints in Delaware, especially New Castle Country and even more so in Newark and the 19711. I guess it is a place for them to congregate since they are in such a minority and they don’t have a place to do it in public?
Anyway, KT please keep on top of this AD saga. Here’s hoping you get UD to open up more.

Re: Spring Practice
The News Journal online can be gotten for nearly nothing. With all due respect, aside from your articles on Hens sports, it, and the entire Gannett News org and USA Today, are worth less than nothing. Principle is involved.ktres wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:55 pm Since the topic came up -- again -- newspapers were never free, and an on-line subscription is actually very economical:

I don't subscribe. That doesn't mean I don't occasionally read through it. Easy to find abandoned in pizza places, barber shops, etc. Not hard to breeze through the entire paper in 15 minutes...very little coverage, and written on an 8th grade level (which is probably why some folks think it covers things well).
Plenty of interesting stories here in DE...massive amounts of waste and corruption at the port, for starters (that stuff could provide articles for months on end). And, plenty of info to be had about UD's financial challenges...if journalist would look. But, no. Too hard, apparently. So, slim high school sports coverage...that is the saving grace?

And, some folks toss some absurd things out there...and it is good to laugh at those things.
By the way, look it up...most newspapers are written on a high school level. Even the NYT is written on a 10-12th grade level. Readability, is the given reason. Think about that. And then look at the length of any Gannet article (think about how USA Today came into being). Imagine a world where most people's decisions are based upon such articles. No depth. No context. Yet people will swear they are informed.
Gawsh dang, if that isn't funny (and sad).
But, Spring has sprung and football is on the menu again Woo-hoo! Can't wait to hear some news about our FBS Hens. I'll do my best Porta-Potty reporting, complete with new air fresheners. Hope you can do your part.

Imagine, a world where people’s views and decisions are based on information from a “news” organization that settled a defamation lawsuit, aka for lying for $3/4 billion and millions still swear by it. And add to that, the same people criticizing NYT as well …. embarrassing doesn’t even begin to cover it. Again, glad those folks and views are in the vast minority around here and don’t come out much except for on message boards and social media.Cluck U wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 4:18 pmBill, LIFE is funny.BlueHenBill wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 3:57 pm Cluck U, Why is almost everytning a joke to you as evidenced by your constant use of laughing emojis?
