Re: Hens Offseason
I am quite curious to see how the shooting translates. He shot 44% last season, but averaged just under 2 attempts a game. In his first two years of Monmouth, he shot 4-28 (14%) from 3. To be fair, the inaugural Monmouth CAA team was really rough for anyone to stand out on. The last two years, he shot over 7 2-pointers a game, so that’s where he likes to get his scoring from. But if he shoot closer to last year’s %, we’ll take it. We kept our best pure shooter, added one who is elite at it (Timko) and another that can gain respect (Allen). A PG, a big man, and another forward/wing are my most likely positional choices for these last three spots based off the guys who have visited and my personal opinion.Udforever1 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:49 pmAnother guy who can shoot the ball a bit. 44% from 3 last year.UDHoops wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:25 pm Another commitment… familiarity with the CAA, 2023 NEC Tournament MVP, NCAA Tournament experience

Have you heard any information about Samage Teel a point guard from Presbyterian?
Re: Hens Offseason
Besides the initial find on exploratory contact, I have not heard anything on Teel (I did forget to add him to the list on my site, he is up there now). It wouldn't shock me to see that happen though. With the losses of Davis/Ray/Drumgoole/Trent from last year's consistent rotation, a new offensive identity is needed. What helps the half-court offense (one of our weaknesses in conference play last season) flow through easier is... shooting.mpwerrell wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 4:03 pmYes, thanks Bryce!UDHoops wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 11:10 am Just for everyone's update: https://www.ssn-sports.com/post/2024-de ... ason-guide

The 4 names I mentioned above shot a combined 102-320 (31.8%) from beyond the arc last season. If you take GD off this, the percentage drops to 22.4%. As an entire team, Delaware ranked 11th out of 14 in the CAA in 3PT% at 32.2%.
The 3 names returning from that rotation, Reilly/Lane/Houser, shot 111-312 (35.6%) from 3 last year. Here are their individual splits:
Reiily:
36/90 (40.0%) Out-of-Conference + 34/95 (35.8%) CAA = 70/185 (37.8%)
Houser:
16/32 (50.0%) Out-of-Conference + 13/49 (26.5%) CAA = 29/85 (34.1%)
Lane:
1/14 (7.1%) Out-of-Conference + 11/28 (39.3%) CAA = 12/42 (28.6%)
Lane improved his shot so much from November to February, Houser cooled from a hot start, and Reilly saw a minor dip. I am being very selective with these statistics here for a reason. I love everything that those first 4 Hens above brought, and they were strong at a lot of parts of the game, but when this is the core that you have presented to build around for 2024-25, each of these 3 have the ability to improve their numbers with more spacing provided around them on the court.
The first portal addition? A Division 2 All-American that has made over 200 three-pointers in his 3-year collegiate career, shooting close to 44% from 3 and 21 points a game at Jefferson. The arc (+ free throw line being an 89.4% FT shooter) doesn't change distances from Division 2 to 1. The defenders and the pace of the game changes, but the physical court is the same. Erik Timko will allow Reilly a little more breathing room at the perimter.
Next at bat? Adding a 44% shooter from the NEC representative in the NCAA Tournament. Tahron Allen doesn't use the 3-point line too often, as he only shot under 2 a game on average last season, but his volume (20 attempts to 59 attempts) and percentages (15% to 44%) both noticeably rose from his sophomore CAA season at Monmouth to last year at Wagner. If you want to understand Allen's strengths, this 22-point performance in the NEC Finals helped clinch both his individual award as NEC Tournament MVP and their team accomplishment of punching their ticket to madness. Watch how confident he was in his mid-range shot: https://youtu.be/HSnHum9A9No?si=s5NbGWanbfwaO192
And today? Adding a 6'8" forward that shot 7-15 from 3 as a reserve for an ACC program this year, including 2-3, 9 points at one of the toughest places to play in the country at Auburn. He didn't get many looks, but he made them when called upon. John Camden hasn't even played 250 minutes of college basketball in his 3 years. There is a reason he was recruited so highly out of high school. The athleticism is there, the shooting is there, and now Delaware can be his place to put all of the puzzle pieces together. Ingelsby and staff have done a great job in developing these players of similar situations (top 250 recruits with limited college minutes from P5 programs). Dylan Painter, Jyare Davis, and most recently Niels Lane all fit into that category. Let's all root for John to come in and be the same. If you want to see highlights of Camden shooting, go to 53:00 and 1:02:30 in this video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb0O5HHwLLA
And at the high school level we have added Macon Emory, a 6'8" forward that likes to step outside and shoot it from 3, and Izaiah Pasha, a 6'4" guard that likes the ball in his hands and can score both inside and out.
Two spots are left. You can see them use one on another guard position, specifically one that can distribute as Trent, Drumgoole, Ray, and Davis had the top 4 assist numbers on the roster last year.
Just guys that have reported contact with UD that fit this mold:
- Samage Teel (6'2"/Presbyterian) 13.6 PPG, 41.5 3PT%, 87 total assists
- Trent Middleton Jr. (6'3"/Ball State) 6.2 PPG, 42.9 3PT%, 54 total assists
- Amar'e Marshall (6'4"/Albany) 16.7 PPG, 37.2 3PT%, 68 total assists
The other spot, personally, would be used on a forward with some size and rebounding/blocking ability. That would help us win more 50/50 balls next season and a perfect complement to the forward room of guys like Houser/Camden that like to stretch the floor offensively. A reported recruit of interest in Jerome Brewer from Texas A&M-Commerce would fit that mold.
And of course, only a percentage of guys post their recruiting updates to the portal tracking sites. All of Timko/Allen/Camden did not have anything publicly out about Delaware connections. I could sit here all day and do my research on other fits, but I would rather do my research on guys once I have heard they visited/committed.
I apologize in advance for the long rundown of statistics and info, but I see the vision already in the 5 current incoming additions when combining them with what we have in the locker room. Balanced scoring with multiple guys that are dangerous from beyond the arc. The staff has been working hard... and they're not done yet.

Great stuff as always Hoops. THANKS
Re: Hens Offseason
Ehh…not super excited about this pickup. Regardless of his 4-star rating and top 100 recruit status coming out of high school, the kid has literally done nothing in 3 years of college basketball. I’d rather take my chances on a proven kid at the low Division I or high Division II levels. I sure hope we have a true post player coming and that we won’t be sold another bill of goods about how this kid gives us enough size down low. Starting to feel eerily similar to last year’s offseason. We need to address our lack of size and physicality in the post!!!UDHoops wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 10:55 am A very strong addition, first reported here by Blue Hen alum Jeff Borzello.

Re: Hens Offseason
Hoops - thanks for the post and info - that is a great summary. I am somewhat optimistic about these signings. Timko looks very promising - albeit only for one year. And I like the two prep signings. We'll see. I would like the next signing to be a big....I think I may be a bit more optimistic than finpxz1 wrt Camden, but not crazily so
