All relative CH. We aren't competing against the Big Boys-- we are competing against G5. We should go after the best of what's left. I'm sure there are some who would rather play than get paid to sit. And why would the Big Boys pay a bunch of money for bench sitters when they could use the money to up the bid for someone special?
I hear you ATH, but it’s just a concern the big boys will have enough money to pay really good players enough money to ease the pain of not playing because they will also have the special players starting as well uncharted waters

By the way, The Hens better start getting those OL/DL lines up to FBS speed soon

Before scholarship limits Michigan and Ohio State gave out full rides like candy at Halloween. Until we get some rules, NIL will produce the same system we had before the mid-70s. The portal will make it a little different, but the rich will be paying NIL money so some of these kids don’t play for another conference school.

This.

Just look at the business world (and football is a business…with college football becoming an even bigger business)…companies with money will buy out competition and let the product die on the vine so long as it doesn't compete. Happens all the time.

If you are a football team, why would you let great bench players leave to start for another team? Just give them money (lots of it) to keep them happy and in reserve for your team for a year or two.

I like to say that there are only so many starting spots on D1 football squads, so some players would rather transfer and play…but if you are getting paid a boatload of money to wait a year or two while at an elite program (and you will get drafted anyway)…why not take the gobs of money and sit and then play in front of millions at the big TV games and the big playoff games? Money changes things, especially big money.

Don’t see Delaware competing (or wanting to) at that level.

It will be interesting to see where we will fit in.

Mr. JD, you’re a smart guy, aren’t you?

I think you’re exactly right on this; however, I think there will be a necessary self-correction…in time.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting Bobby. I suspect raising significant NIL money year in and year out will be a struggle for most G5 schools. I'm sure a few will be carried by a handful of sugar daddies, but for most, sustained fund raising will be challenging.

Who are the top 10 potential future Sugar Daddies for the Blue Hens?

Curious if you guys are considering the MAC for Men's soccer. Perhaps Missouri State also puts their teams there. https://csnbbs.com/thread-987325-post-1 ... id19507579

RPI Soccer and click on conference MVC and noting 3 MAC teams are present and Akron is in the Big East.

UMass wanted the MAC and played CUSA, as the MAC did not seem to want to jump, so we dropped CUSA at the end of the Army game Oct 28th and MAC Commissioner, Dr. Jon Steinbrecher made a quiet visit during our homecoming on Nov4 th. They had not invited us and the clock with CUSA was ticking. So, UMass told Matt Brown Brown in his conversation with our AD on Dec 2nd, UMass was interested in continued conversations with CUSA. Then in December the MAC presidents discussed the addition of UMass. Next meeting on Feb 26th voted us in and after our BOT meeting accepted Feb 29th.

Regarding Delaware in the MAC, not sure when the MAC told UDEL not now, but guessing the combination of being FCS and outside the footprint being a non continuous state were factors. Also the MAC likes stability and your location makes it more likely you would jump at the AAC. The AAC does not have an interest in the Northeast. Yes, they took Army, but they are a national brand and only 1 sport, FB.

Holy cow, what’s a cluster f. Reading that article is like watching a ship go down.

That article was a great example of an organization (in this case, Temple) with a group of incompetent hires in leadership positions. Mr. Johnson was a bad, unqualified hire as AD…small minded, non-creative thinking. “We’ve got to get better”…followed by zero ideas of how to do that. Nearly every coach has left since he was hired…and that was only 3 years ago. Get hired to make the big decisions…then form a committee to make the decisions. Disaster.

And…not a single Temple b-ball or football player has given back to the school? In fact, the only former Temple athlete that has given any money was a guy from their disbanded baseball team. Wow.

Heck, UD is lucky to have Chrissi. If she leaves, we had better not hire some unqualified clown to be our AD.

And to think…they did not want to play us in football.
