Yeah, ugly game and all of us wish our 3 point shooters would be more consistent, but it was gutty - especially with Davis in foul trouble. Speaking of, let's give credit where credit is due - I thought MI handled shuffling Davis in and out well while Davis was in foul trouble (and yes, that 4th foul was the definitition of ticky tack....the replay of which was shown on the scoreboard.....finally - a fully working scoreboard showing replays!)

Right? All freshman team

The update I first received was he was only going to be missing minimal time but it’s been a tough recovery process for him . Don’t expect him back at this point tbh

I really don’t get calling him a disappointment. Yes, he made the Southern Conference All Freshman Team. The jump from the Southern to CAA is significant. Look at the team he transferred from’s record this season. The home game before he made 3 crucial threes against Monmouth. Yes, he had a quiet night offensively today and he can improve on both ends. But so can others. Speaking to Jyare after his career high 29 pts and 17 rbs, he told me what he needs to improve on. Everyone can get better.

Also, C-USA isn’t a major step up on the court. Doesn’t have the back end like the CAA because it only has 9 teams. Here’s a look at the analytical standpoint of the top 6 teams in each:

C-USA
71
185
139
250
102
187
Average: 155.67

CAA
101
127
125
136 (us)
141
154
Average: 130.67

Of course other metrics are necessary (travel, out of conference schedules) but Tyler is a great person and representative of this school who is improving and is only in his true sophomore season at the collegiate level. Understand if personal high expectations were set, but I really think it’s unfair to call him a disappointment, in my personal opinion. Regardless, good wins and go Hens

Fair enough UDHoops…perhaps my expectations were higher than they should have been based on his numbers at VMI. I have no doubt he’s a wonderful kid who is working hard to improve every day. I also think he’s probably being asked to do things he isn’t used to based on our lack of size in the post. He’s not very quick afoot, and that results in him oftentimes being out of position defensively. If we had a legitimate post player, we could afford to have him hunting his shot from the perimeter. I’m sure Coach Phillips will continue to work with him on his footwork and positioning. No doubt we will need his size come CAA tournament time.

Sucks about Bethea. Some kids just seem to be cursed by the injury bug. I suppose we can add Moss to that list, too. Super frustrating because this team could be very dangerous if we had a legitimate post. Hopefully something MI and staff address for next year.

Good research UDHoops. I’ve watched some CUSA basketball and I’d have to agree, it’s a step up but I don’t see it being the transition as great as joining a CAA that included ODU, VCU and GMU. BTW, the atmosphere at WKU looks to be worth a trip there someday.

Houser has added value to our roster. He never was Carr, but somehow he was expected to be. We’ve never had a big that Bill Phillips hasn’t made better.

Anyone have an update on Drumgoole? He was limping and in some pain leaving the court. We need his scoring. I hope he gets healthy soon.

my thought exactly- His style/ability to hit the 3, decent step back jumper, drive and slash to the bucket as a #2 might fit the NBA( from what I recall since I haven't watched the NBA in many years) whereas Davis as a #3 might be a more challenging fit imo. We can't afford to lose any players or have them somewhat hobbled.

Will any of these guys be able to be real contributors in the future?

Houston Emory?
Kobe Jerome?
Wes Peterson?

Any current player could possibly not be at UD next season, but who if anyone has no remaining eligibility and who else is likely to be gone?

Will Ingelsby sign any other (beside Macon Emory) incoming FR for 2024? If not, why not?

UD has a roster of 14 players including walk-on(s) Baffone and Ogunbo(?). Bethea & Moss (for 3 seasons & counting) are injured. Emory (2 seasons & counting), Jerome, & Peterson (3 seasons & counting) barely play. That leaves 7 players who play meanignful minutes. UD can't afford to lose Drumgoole or any other of those 7 players to injury. During national broadcasts, announcers have stated that many of the CAA coaches have voiced their opinions that UD may have the best starting 5 in the CAA. What is left unsaid is that UD has probably the least depth in the CAA and those 5 starters who play almost all of the minutes may wear down. Meanwhile many teams in the CAA have larger rosters. Two examples are Towson at 16 and Monmouth at 19, and a large number of those teams' players have the ability to, and do play. With only 13 schollies available, how are teams able to have such large roster numbers and why is it that UD cannot or chooses not to for some unknown reason(s)?

Why would you want or need a roster of 19? This isn’t freshmen high school basketball.

I agree. I have been watching his defense closely all season and have seen a noticeable difference the past several games. He doesn’t have the best lateral quickness but has improved his defensive positioning. And that, in turn, has helped reducing the number of fouls resulting from being out of step defensively.

If he can sustain this recent improvement (basically now having a neutral impact on defense), I’ll take the spark he gives us off the bench for 14 minutes a game. He currently leads the team shooting 41% from the three. And that also takes pressure off of Reilly and Drumgoole.

Just a question for those on the board who actually go to the games, I noticed the stats for yesterday's game, and we had only 5 assists for the entire game? Are we that much of a one on one playing team, is it the lack of a true point guard? That stat just blew me away. I live here in East Tennessee and don't get to watch many games, but I watch a team like the Vols have 25 assists on 28 made baskets in a game. I'm happy with the win for sure, but I can't see beating any of the good teams left on the schedule if we pass the ball around that little. Not a complaint, just a curiosity.

This was definitely an outlier for us. We probably average close to 15 assists per game and have also been taking better care of the ball this year, in my opinion (e.g. only 6 turnovers yesterday).

Jayre stands out to me as a particularly good passer, especially out of the double team. But I feel like all the guys are playing unselfishly and doing a nice job of making that extra pass when needed.

Thanks for the info Hen90, I thought it had to be an anomaly. I see we have been holding our own on the boards in the past few wins, we don't have to dominate the rebounding, but we have to just hold our own to win.

The Hens are 2nd in the CAA in both Assists and A/T ratio
