If UD is having financial issues, and it’s really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, Imagine the impacts being felt by some of the less well off schools that play football at the FCS level. Maybe these realities had something to do with the expedited move up to FBS. UD abandoned the FCS ship before hitting the iceberg. Their endowment is $1.78 billion. How can they not have money? Can they not use the endowment to fund projects like tearing down the Towers or NEZ or indoor facility?

You are right on Cluck. Perhaps a little too politically correct, but we know what you’re saying. Blame the greedy capitalists / free market types - go to central planning. And continue to support useless functions in UD.

Because the people that "endowed" that money to UD did so with specific instructions on what it could be used for. A $50,000 endowed football scholarship can not be spent to cover employee heath care cost; neither the principle (the endowment) or the interest (the scholarship).
