Disappointing loss. Credit to Rider. They certainly looked better than their record and the team picked to win the MAAC. But very disappointing loss.

An example of where our lack of size and depth in the post cost us a game.

Rider played out of their mind. They are better than 2-8 but we beat this team 9 out of 10 times.

56% from field
50% from 3
90% from line

We only had 4 turnovers

It was just one of those games.

Defense, although Rider was hitting some shots and 25% from 3 did us in. We need another shooter which sounds like we are getting back soon.

The loss unfortunately is going to haunt us unless Rider goes on a run. If we win the CAA, it will affect seeding.

Hens have to learn to play defense for all 30 seconds of the shot clock. Any time the defense is not solid, it's going to be tough to win.

Oh well …

With all the talk about the defense, including MI in the post game, the Hens shot 6-24 from 3. They need another shooter in the worst way. Hope Bethea fills that roll. And they got out rebounded 40-29. Which isn’t surprising. The inside game won’t be getting fixed.

Also, teams are going to catch on about Trent and continue to collapse on him when he drives like in the second half. Teams can do that when the Hens shoot so poorly from 3. He takes zero shots other than drives. When him, Ray and Lane are on the court at the same time, other teams will just jam up the lane.

Finally, the funniest line of the night was the Hens would beat Rider 9 of 10. Pretty extreme exaggeration of the difference between the two teams.

This game is a microcosm of exactly why UD Basketball is so incredibly frustrating, and so difficult to garner fan support. We beat Xavier on the road, have our highest NET ranking in school history, receive recognition in the Mid-major Top 25 rankings, and then lose to 2 and 8 Rider team at home. Just a horrible job by the staff of getting this team ready to play. And unfortunately, with our inconsistent outside shooting and lack of size in the post, I think we will continue to see up and down performances all season long. This story gets soooo old…

I agree with this. Same 1,500 or so fans in the building and repeat ….im afraid some things will never
Change. I didn’t think Rider
Looked like a 2-8 team. Why we can’t get
Some rebounders like they have is a mystery to me. I assume under Inglesby this is the best we are going to get. Not sure we have money to buy out a coach if this season goes way south, but …..we need to expect
More at this point

It is just the way it is and has been. The team has little margin for error. And that MI, and even some fans kinda go “oh well” is noticeable. The program needs to sustain some momentum, including with the fan base. Last night was a missed opportunity.

This team has trouble shooting the ball, but has Houser, the guy MI laughably called an “elite shooter” in the post game, mostly playing 10 minutes. MI is a defense first coach. He just is and has been. When a team desperately needs shooting, maybe it would be okay to give up a little defense?

Anyway, hopefully Bethea comes back and helps with the outside shooting. It will give the team a little more margin for error.

“The program needs to sustain some momentum, including with the fan base. Last night was a missed opportunity”.

Very good point. I feel that MI has not generated any sustained momentum with the program to attract more than 1,500- 2000 fans on a consistent basis. How long do we give him?

It seems that we have had many missed opportunities in the past to bring in additional fans, but we usually “lay an egg”. As a long time fan and season ticket holder, I am getting frustrated.

Absolutely he’s not like a big personality to get out there and get the community involved and interested. Not the likes of Brey that’s for sure. Thats true most big games we lay one . We have Princeton that could be an opportunity but after what I saw last night… plus the way UD schedules a lot of our games in January have little to no students and the pep band won’t be back I assume until January either boy what a drag without the pep band they at least cheer and yell etc.

We scored in the 80's and gave up 88, how much more defense exactly do you want to give up??? Please explain how offense is the big issue?? Thank you
