Send lawyers, guns and money.

Direct compensation? As employees or contractors? Lots of legal technicalities. Title IX...but who gets to decide which players on which teams get paid? And schools colluding in a group (or different groups) to set prices/pay?

Someone get the Jaws theme song ready...there's going to be blood in the water.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

If this separate subdivision happens it moves the top 30-60 schools to a different level. Seems crazy to throw that amount of $ out there.
UD to FBS. I never thought I’d see the day

Remember last summer when that tall 7-footer for Michigan basketball transferred from there to Kansas. Said because Kansas assured him he'd get 6 figures in NIL money, Michigan was promising that. That's just how it is now.

As for capping it, good luck with that. All of this blew up the way that it did precisely because schools were limiting players in terms of what they could make. It's not that easy to put a cap on that spigot now. Maybe if a school individually wants to limit compensation like that, or just doesn't aggressively pursue it, that's one thing. Getting a whole bunch of schools together to collectively do the same thing sounds an awful lot like collusion and would likely not do well in court.

I agree with how much money schools make off the players that the players deserve some kind of compensation; but it needs to be restructured. redid, however you want to say it. I mean some players are in commercials for big companies already getting paid God knows how much and not even a Pro yet! Do they deserve to get paid more than those who are actually in the league already and have established themselves? Of course not.

Good idea when it came out, but is turning into a farce.

When did a full scholarship for a college education, become something of no value? Asking for a friend.

When they started paying players I guess. I think if a student/athlete opts for NIL money, they should have to pay back the cost of their scholarship. Players that don't opt in for NIL money get a scholarship. Numbers of scholarships/NIL players per team stay the same. Just a thought and maybe it'd make athletes think twice about jumping ship so easily.

All of the above is worthy of discussion. There clearly are going to have to be some rules and regulations to NIL and paying athletes.

It will be interesting to see if the folks that usually abhor rules and regulations will support some here.

That would somewhat depend on their major...and what they decide to do with their education.

The good thing about FCS is that the majority of the players are actually trying to get an education. We'll have to see if that stays the same as we venture into the FBS pool.
