NIL- Blue Hen Collective

Post by UDEL Fear the Bird »

Does anyone know how the Blue Hen Collective stacks up against the rest of CUSA in NIL? I have heard that the current NIL budget is very small right now for us. In the pay to play NIL environment it is becoming increasingly important to outspend your peers in NIL.

All we need are a few donations.

Our fan base is old...plenty of retired folks willing to dip into their depleted portfolios to cough up a little cash for the younger generation of players who might need a cool million or two each year to play their favorite sport before they go pro.

Can't wait for the bidding wars.

Carty: Hey, Delaware is a great school for your education and it has solid facilities compared to our G5 peers.

Prospect: Yeah, but I've been offered a bucket of money from the other places...and I wont be needing that education. I was told by my agent that old folks will take care of my money needs to see me play ball for a couple years. All I have to do is listen to them complain form the stands. Heck, it is almost as though I am already a professional player...but the rules say otherwise.

Carty: We can offer you some Grotto's pizza and a set of used tires from that place across the street.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Cluck you are a diamond here in a field of coal!!! Lol. Love the humorous touch that you put on subjects here. We are never getting into the living room of kids like that, but their are plenty of kids that are very good football players that want that education, don't have the entourage telling them that they're NFL bound, and that we have a decent shot at getting. If they're good enough to play in the league the scouts will find them. We have had plenty of examples of that in Newark over the last 50+ years. We just need to find that lane and stay in it, don't waste money and resources for kids that we will never get. Any news on kids leaving via the portal yet? Anybody?

This is going to be awesome! Why stop at schools? Let the businesses and individuals pay the athletes directly. Cut out UD as the middle man (make no mistake…this action is the schools trying to take out any middle men from the equation).

Local restaurants/businesses could skip advertising on/through UD properties…simply offer a student-athlete a couple hundred dollars per appearance and some appetizers to do a weekly post game gig. Give a student a car and wrap that thing with a poster of the kid (and hope he doesn’t crash it) and a football/basketball with a generic Blue Hen chicken and a map of Delaware. No need to add UD to the promotion…the kid will probably be gone through the portal to another school next season anyway.

Direct compensation under some kind of regulated structure is better than what exists now, where the money has to be funneled indirectly to the player via third parties purportedly unaffiliated with the university, with no corresponding contractual obligation to the university. It's basically NFL free agency but no control over the players. You can give a guy a million dollars and in theory he can just take your money and transfer (see Quinn Ewers at Ohio State).

Well if they can regulate it and put stipulations on it perhaps that you have to stay that’s one thing ….

Rick Nueheisel former College player and Coach, now with CBS recommended a CAP on the NIL funds just like there are for Scholarships (85 in FBS).

Great idea. Now, will the likes of LSU, OSU, ND et al listen?

It would be mandated as an NCAA rule under Nueheisels thinking just like with Scholarships.
