The end and a beginning

Post by cams »

In all likelihood tomorrow is the last playoff football game that UD will play for a long time. Anything can happen and I sure hope the Hens pull off the upset but it feels like the end of an era. I just hope the players appreciate this moment and let it all hang out. I have so many fond memories of UD playoff games that will be with me forever.

A new chapter is upon us. We have the leadership, resources and facilities to be successful at the FBS level, but it may take some time. If I had a time machine I would fast forward to 2033, 10 years from now. What does the FBS look like? Has the playoff expanded from 12 to 16 and maybe 24 teams by then? Is Delaware still in C-USA, or have they moved on? What does the stadium look like? What is the fan support like? I hope to live long enough to have answers to these questions.

A great chapter closes and an exciting new one begins, such is life.

Our starting QB in 2033 is currently in 3rd-6th grade. If you get your hand on a time machine and figure out who it is, come back and tell his teachers to incorporate the playbook into his homework.

UDHoops has been on fire lately.

I will miss the playoffs, but I will enjoy the future.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Yup, it's a little sad that we won't have all the nostalgia of playoffs to look back on. But then again, they're far different now than they were back in the day so even that is different.

I doubt we'll see much change past the 12 team model that FBS is moving to next year. No one here has ever liked the 24 team model FCS uses and there's just only so many games a team can play a year anyway. But I look forward to better enjoying the season in the season, with better schedules, bigger crowds, and more at stake. It's beyond time for this so good that we're finally making the move.

My era was before the playoffs. Our playoff was the Boardwalk Bowl. I always followed and occasionally attended playoff games, but let's face it. nobody really cared other than those playing in them. I am looking forward to a new era of Blue Hen football!

Go FIghtin' Blue Hens! Beat Montana!

Out of curiosity, what’s the percentage look like as far as thrilled to move up vs not happy? We discuss this yearly in Montana and unless things change drastically I’m in the I’d rather not move up club. The playoffs are my favorite time of year.

The conversation is all over this forum and I'd say the majority of us are excited for this move that should've happened years ago.

Both. Excited and sad. There is a real pride when you can say “6 time NC” then reel off the years. But the world moves forward and the time has come for UD to do that too.

The story that TopStraight posted a day ago, on Idaho-New Mexico State is an informative read. A flagship university like us needs to be at the FBS level.

During the talks and rumors etc, I wasnt as thrilled as some on here but now that its here, its pretty exciting to see what the Hens can do. As long as its done the right way which it appears they are doing so.

Is there any worry of a UMass experience rather than JMU?

Me too a little bit I don’t think we will set the world on fire year one but hopefully Better than a 2-3 win season. Curious to see how JMU does now that their coaches is the way out and taking people with him..,,

JMU was way more ready for the move than Delaware but I wonder if JMU is a little worried now also with Cignetti moving on to Indiana
