Onto Montana

Post by Udforever1 »

Had a post planned at half for after the game about how I was very concerned with the energy, or lack there of, that we came out with today. I really thought Nova was going to beat us twice. Credit to the staff and team for the comeback.

Injuries or not, I hope that we come out with a lot more energy and intensity next week, but I do know we won’t quit, just as we didn’t today.

We are down our top two QBs, top two Rb’s now, Bermudez, a right guard and if anyone noticed, looks like some DB’s as we played with at times 3 true freshmen in the defensive backfield in the second half. Yet this team found a way to win and gets an extra week of practice for these young guys.

Go Hens!

Yikes!!!

I didn't realize the injuries were THAT bad.

Delaware fought hard today. Played all 4 quarters. Nice to see that from the players and coaches.

Montana is a different type of beast than Laffy.

Coach, imagine if anyone said back in August we would be going into our opening playoff game with all those injuries you listed….. and we would win the playoff game with Nick Minicucci at quarterback after being down 28 to 7 at halftime

They would of been laughed out of the room by the doubters

Great job Blue Hens on a gutsy much needed win today

What airport other than Missoula, Spoakanne or Kalispell are near Missoula?

Trying to find a reasonable flight for the game against Montana.

Bozeman has an international, but it’s still about 3
Hour drive to Missoula. Any options are pricey most likely esp due to a week’s notice. Good luck if you get to go it would be awesome to be there.

The Hens need to bring the right footwear, should check in with Mike London and ask for any tips about icy fields and how not to prepare for a freezing cold weather game in the great state of Montana

Last year William & Mary got brutalized on a cold night with a frozen field at Montana State. Apparently they didn’t have the best footwear for those conditions

That happened in 1993. Delaware brought molded and screw in cleats, both were like ice skates during walk throughs. They had the turf shoes sent in overnight, made a big difference.

I don't see how they couldn't be. If not, I'm sure they can do the same thing they did 30 years ago. I remember watching that game in my dorm, it had to be one of the most exciting games I've ever seen!

In all my years of Blue Hens fandom I have never seen the amount of injuries this team has. And they came back yesterday from one of the worst starts of a game I can remember. But they did it and with a third string, freshman QB. That is all that matters.

But next week is a different animal. It’s not that I think Montana is an awesome team. But they are surely a lot, lot better than Lafayette. And playing in front of 25K at night won’t be easy.

Just play hard and let it all hang out. Hopefully limit the turnovers (receivers catch the balls and don’t fall down) and limit the blown secondary coverage. Keep it close, hopefully get a couple of breaks and see what happens in the 4Q …. Hopefully.

Finally, if the Hens do lose, I bet they don’t stay on the field after the game for more than 10 minutes like the high schoolish Lafayette did. I stayed for the fight song after the game in the corner of the end zone and noticed Layayette was having a team meeting at mid field. It went on for at least 10 minutes and looked like it even broke up into position or at least offense and defense team meetings. Kinda weird. Maybe they were telling the players how their parents could cancel their trips they purchased to Missoula in the first half?

I had Lafayette fans in my ear the entire game. I did tell one of the over zealous parents prior to halftime to be sure to enjoy the entire game because they still do play 60 minutes.

I’ve seen a lot of football in my seven plus decades but, being perfectly honest, even I didn’t expect such a remarkable turnaround.
