Not a good day for the pitchers yesterday. Lots of walks, hit batters etc.

Hard to win games that way. Lets hope for a rebound this weekend

The announcer on Flosports yesterday said Greenly injured his arm at Jacksonville and will not pitch "for the foreseeable future", whatever that means. He would be the latest in many unfortunate injuries to our staff over the years. In recent years, to name a few, we lost Billy Sullivan for a year (he threw a 100 mph fastball in practice and is now in Triple A), Brandon Walter for a year (now in the big leagues), and Dom Velazquez for at least a year (a projected conference starter last year). Greenly was the ace last year, and no doubt would make a difference on the mound this year to the team's prospects.

Wasn't Velasquez supposed to be pitching for UD this season? Als weren't there a couple other Hens who were injured who also are/were expected back this season?

Velazquez missed all last season and is supposed to be back at the end of March/beginning of April. The other pitchers who did not pitch in the preseason scrimmages, but who appeared in the last week or so for short stints, are Gubitosi and Nelson.

Add Chad Kuhl as another Hen who got injured that had TJ.

Honestly, I like the rotation without Greenly. He was ineffective in his few starts and better just to focus on hitting and getting on base. I think Tyler will be our Friday starter by the end of the year even though he got hit around a little this weekend.

The team beat Quinnipiac today 7-6. Gubitosi came in to finish the game once again, striking out 6 in the final 2.2 innings. He has been very good on the mound this year, following an excellent freshman year. Perhaps he should be considered for one of the weekend conference starter spots. It's great to have a quality closer, but starters pitch more innings.

A little under a month into the season and we are still looking for some a quality Friday starter. August pitched another great game [hate that his pitch count was so high so early in the season].

I wonder why Colmery isnt getting a fair shake....two years removed from TJ, fully healthy and only thrown 1.2 this year [grant it he did rocked one game he threw].

Another candidate for a starter could be Eli.

Outside of Nelson and Colmery, all our pitchers [Rolka, Shaub & Conway] all got rocked. We cant keep losing games like this or to under achieving teams like GTown.

Conways line is .1 inning, 2 hits, 4 ER

You were doing well, right up until this comment. Georgetown is hardly under achieving….

God forbid they had the financial backing UD has…

The hitting is also off to a slow start this season. Three starters, Graeber, Stewart, and Leach, are all batting under .200. There are high hopes for Graeber, the JUCO national player of the year last year, but he hasn’t lived up to the billing yet. Dengler might be able to help, but he has been out for a few weeks since he went down with an injury running to first base. Meanwhile, Owen Petrich, who transferred after being on the bench here last year, is regularly batting cleanup for St. Joe’s.
