Dropped 2 of 3 verse the tribe. Sundays game the starter [Eli A] got hit a bit but the pen shut them down. Our offense just couldnt get going, only four hits and 3 walks with 15 strikeouts & 7 LOB

W&M had a good, deep pitching staff.

Unless he has had a sore arm and needs limited innings, Gubitosi should be considered for one of the weekend starter spots. He is one of the three best pitchers on the team with good control and the lowest era, and he was very good last year. It’s nice to have a good closer like him, but he only was used two innings this past weekend. A starter can typically
throw 5-7 innings, while a closer averages no more than 2-3 in a weekend. The early innings are just as important for the score as the late innings.

Marose looked very good in game two with control.

I don't why the coaching staff gave Atiya his first start of the season in the deciding game in the series with W&M. Atiya gave up all 6 runs to W&M in 4.1 innings. Margolis (who has no starts but significantly better stats than Atiya) then pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. Colmery (who has yet to start but significantly better stats than Atiya) pitched a scoreless 7th inning, Stretchay (who had/has 2 starts but worse pitching stats than Atiya) pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and Shaub (who has significantly better stats than Atiya and has started 2 games) pitched a scoreless 9th inning. I would have used Margolis, Colmery, or Shaub to start on Sunday in lieu of Atiya. The reality though is that regardless of who pitched, UD just didn't hit the entire series and was fortunate to win one game. The offense was in a funk and was passively taking way too many called third strikes rather than being aggressive at the plate. If the coaches and the players don't adopt an aggressive apprach at the plate and turn this offense around, the future results will not be good.

I really wanna remain positive but not seeing enough from the team to be positive when we move to CUSA. I see has a bottom third team in that conference.

We lack consistency....very Jekyll & Hyde from pitching and hitting. This year, regardless of injury, its a miracle if our starter gets past the third inning.

Another weekend series....another game where the limit isnt the same which a few exceptions and Shaub gest the bump.

No true consistency in the lineup or pitching right now. Look at all the top teams, they have their weekend starter locked in and not a guessing game week in and week out.

Shaub went 2 innings giving up one run and now our presumed Saturday starter is in in the game. August has through 4.1 so far with 3 hits on 67 pitches.

Lets hope it was a coaches decision for Tyer....he was pitch hit for after 1 ab

Dunion was inserted in the game late as a pinch runner with a cast on his lower arm. That seemed too risky. He can’t otherwise bat or play in the field until the cast comes off. There must have been other guys on the bench who could pinch run. He ended up sliding into home but seemed OK.

Hens take the series with an 8-1 win. Velazquez did in fact return.

Velasquez pitched 1-1/3 innings, gave up 4 hits, and was charged with 1 ER on wild pitch by reliever Stretchay who pitched great, not allowing a run in 6-2/3 innings and 102 pitches.

Glad to see Dom back. Def a very short outing but a step in the right direction. Hopefully he can play a vital role as the season progresses.

Coach Marm still makes me SMH at times with his decision making but I will take the 2/3 and a series win.

I wonder who is on the bump today; Colmery threw 2 inn, Nelson threw 1.2, Conway threw 2.2 and Rolka cleaned up 2/3 inning.

Should be a great weather day for baseball.

Threw 21 pitches Sunday and another 21 today. Would have most likely thrown that in a pen today anyway.
