Conference USA Expansion

As a follow up to my Sun Belt East chat — what if the following happened in CUSA? Desirable or nah?

Expansion to 14 teams from 9 and split into 2 divisions:

East:

UConn
UMass
Delaware
Villanova
Liberty
FIU
W&M

West:

Jax State
NM State
Sam Houston
WKU
LA Tech
UTEP
MTSU

Villanova and UConn would have to be football only and big-time doubts either would even consider it for that. W&M would join the Patriot before CUSA.

I assumed most of the additions would be football only but at least would make it a true "Conference USA"

I don’t see W&M or Nova moving up. I think they’re content where they are.

Assuming that your proposed lineup did work for schools on a football only basis what are you setting up all of your Olympic sports for?

They would have to stay in the CAA or find a new home 😒

Why is that? There are quite a few CAA schools who don’t have FB teams in the CAA. I know, they have no FB at all, but this is a model if UD can manage that. There is no FBS/FCS distinction in any other collegiate sport, they are all simply Div 1.

Normally it’s called a divorce. I’m trying to think of another school that left with the left foot but stayed with the right foot.
