Sure. Celebrate one game against a mediocre CAA team whose coach decided to throw 59 times on a windy day.

Sure is good to have those complete arse whippings fading from memory…for some.
Oh, you mean the 12th ranked team in the division, thought you were talking about somebody else.

Ever wonder why they chose to throw the ball that much?

Now you know better than Ricky Santos too.
UNH isn’t that good. Keep telling yourself they are, but they aren’t threatening to win anything other than being a 5th grade spelling champ. Remind me how they fared last year against NC Central and Holy Cross?

Santos. Genius.

You should stick to basketball.

Last night we started the game with a 4 man front. For much of the game we had seven defenders in the box. I give Rojas a tremendous credit for adjusting his defense to match the strength of the opponent. Great game plan and great night for the defense.

Yes, last night we were a 3-3-5 defense in name only. The only time we were playing a true 3 man front was when we were playing prevent at the end of the game. Great adjustment for the defense. We took their best offensive threat out of the game. We played with more beef in the box.

Happy Rojas made an adjustment. Shocked…but happy.

He correctly decided to show a run D on a very windy, wet day. Both D’s had the weather as an extra defender. Our D got beat several times, but, luckily, the UNH guys decided to drop the ball at important times. As I said earlier…Let’s Get Ready to Fummmmble! That included dropped passes.

But let’s not get out over our skis. This D, as constructed, won’t hold up against the better teams. Santos took the bait and decided to beat us through the air…and except for a couple wide open dropped passes, the fool might have done that. The SDSUs (and there are more than one of those) of the world will simply just run it down our throats.

Very, very happy we won. Love our Hens. Very happy Rojas listened to all of our combined brainy superpowers and put more folks up front. Kudos.

But, the bigger picture remains unchanged…we aren’t winning anything big with this D as it is constructed. Not even with the help of Mother Nature.

As constructed is hilarious. We won't'/aren't going to beat the SDSU/NDSU's until (as the smartest football guy ever on this board JoeC used to say) we have better jimmies and joes.

Football coaches construct their offensive game plan to take what the defense will give them OR put the defense in conflict between two choices that the offense likes. Last night was the former. Pretty sure that if you asked Carty what he would have done in Santos's shoes against Rojas's defense he would concur with the choices Santos made.

The reason SDSU can/did run it down our throats isn't scheme, it's talent and execution. We can't recruit the kind of players we used to (with notable exceptions), that is the bottom line on why we haven't been much good over the past decade.

And more disciplined last night, we didn’t see the QB breaking out from a big hole left by the rush. They kept their lanes and assignments. Starting to like this FB team.

1) Coaches’ polls.

You are going with that? Ever see the results of the annual CAA poll? You are not a serious person.

2) Non sequitur. Are you implying coaches don’t make mistakes…even obvious ones?

3) You clearly don’t watch a lot of FCS football. Keep telling yourself I don’t know this team…I speak to players every week…and I speak to a former UD coach every month…and keep telling yourself I don’t know football. Listen to the fools who said our DBs were a weak point after losing our supposed all-world talent…and listen to the clown who constantly complained about Carty going for it on 4th down (without realizing Carty was building a culture of getting kids to believe in themselves).

Enjoy this season. We will make the playoffs and win a game or two. And then we will get rolled by a good team.

But, we are on the right track because we have the right guy as our new CEO.

Hey, you’re almost there.

1) Carty’s whole philosophy is to take what the D gives. Maddeningly so. Remember, he came from the UNH system. It is why Carty will often outsmart himself…and it explains his abysmal 4th down calls. Carty could have the best OL in football, on 4th and inches, and if the D lines up in a run D, Carty will pass the ball (usually in some bizarre play).

For you: if Carty were a 5th grade basketball coach and had 7’1” Shaq in the middle of the lane, and the D had all five 5’ defenders collapse around Shaq, Carty would have his players jack up 3s all game (even if they were bad shooters).

2) Rojas’ scheme NEEDS big run stoppers in the middle against power teams. Several of them…or they will simply get worn down. Without the big bodies, we have settled for a top end of beating mediocre teams. Congrats….if that is your aspiration. Until Rojas recruits the right players to win with his D scheme, then he winning the smaller battles, but will lose the war. To me, that is failing and counter to Carty’s goal of winning national championships.

One way or another, Rojas will change his ways or will exit.

Cluck, serious question. What does “as it is constructed” mean to you. . The coach changed up the defense last night. What do you want him to do? Why couldn’t he do it again?

We don’t have a world beater defense with studs at several positions no matter the alignment. That is the reality. But they did enough last night, especially in the second half to win against a pretty good team.

And comments like “except for” don’t mean much. There are many except fors in every game.

Sometimes it is better to give it a rest. Even HZ don’t mention the Hens were only 1 or 3 on 4th down last night. :D

Will note the scoreboard used the coach's poll for its ranking of choice last night, as it had the Hens ranked higher (No. 16 vs. STATS poll that had UD No. 19).

Down the road, will be funny to see if it goes back and forth depending on which ranking has Hens higher (or if one has UD unranked vs. ranked) etc.

I can do this all day.

The coaches certainly don't have a deeper knowledge base than a random verbose poster on an FCS message board.
At this stage of the season, UNH was ranked #12, pretty sure they had a reason for doing that, shame they didn't check with you first before publishing it. And the coaches, they are pretty serious people.

Pen pals with the player's congratulations   that makes you as smart a football guy as Ricky Santos. (You do know he played professionally right?

Watch lots of FCS football, love some FloSports for that.

Coaches make lots of mistakes but they are educated ones. Talent can cover for errors in judgement by coaching staff, and rarely works the other way around.

We will continue to get rolled by good teams until we have the talent to compete with them: jimmies & joes, jimmies & joes.
