Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS
“I think there’s certainly 108 capable players in our room to have the similar success, if not more than we had last year," coach Ryan Carty said. 8/26
Since the Hens have a new quarterback and many new players on defense, we really need a good win on Thursday. A lost on Thursday and we likely will be starting the season with a 0 -2 record which would certainly hurt the team confidence going forward.
This system ranks South Dakota St #28 in the nation and that includes FBS
Per this site:
Hens over SB by 25.
Penn State over Hens by 46.
25?
I’m an optimist, and I do think we win comfortably, but winning by 25 on the road in an opening game is a tough task.
How do you get there? 25-0? Hard to shut a team out. 28-3? I’d imagine we are going to be in a position to kick at least one FG, so maybe something in the 31-6 or 34-7 range…or 35-10? Hmmm…maybe I am starting to believe it can be done.
42-17? That’s a lot of points for a first run with a new QB. So….back to the low 30s to sub-10 point ranges.

Carty on sacks: last year O let up 1 sack in 17 attempts. He wants to be at 1 sack per 22 attempts.
Three things to improve sacks: 1) QB has to process play quickly. Get the ball out. 2) OL has to be clean mentally, put a hat on someone whether it is 5 on 5 or 6 on 6 blocking. Blocking is more mental than physical. 3) Receivers have to process quickly as well…see coverage and adapt…WRs outside. Take what the D gives…if done quickly and correctly, no blocks needed
On D: we replaced the talent. Feels good about that. We’ll see if we have replaced the production.
Sony Brook…hard place to play. Tough and physical.
Stony Coach P:
Healthy team
Play physical football. Coach P was an OL.
Also happy with physical D. Says his DL goes 8 deep. Veteran LBs. Good blend of transfers and returning players.
4 headed RB group…all will play.
Run the ball. New OC. Will still run but with a little different scheme. Still physical running the ball type of team.
Win the LOS.
On another note…Poffenberger is impressive. His highlights versus STFU were impressive.

Nice review. Thanks for posting.
One note: I didn’t see anything about our TEs.
Lastly, will we see weekly pre- and post-game Blue Hen football articles in the Review?
On TEs: Definitely an omission on my part, but one I was at peace with. That's not to say the position shouldn't be quite good. Brose could continue to be a red zone threat depending on how the QB pair uses/targets TEs. Plus, Sessoms is one of my breakout candidates.
I'm gonna get as much as I can RE: football into The Review--ideally weekly postgame minimum with pregame lead-up pieces as able. Between the still-settling editing chain under new leadership and class schedule just starting, I have to see what all I can squeeze in .
