Stony Brook

Post by Henzone »

1st team QB named : Casey Case

Case transferred to Stony Brook this past December after spending the first three years of his collegiate career at FBS Buffalo. The 6-foot-6, quarterback joined the Seawolves in January and earned the role after developing in Stony Brook's system throughout spring ball and into the summer.

While at Buffalo, he appeared in one game in 2021 after redshirting his first season in 2020. Before his collegiate career began, he was a two-year starter at Winter Park High School in Florida. 7/25

Well, some folks were all doom and gloom about the transfer portal.

Seems as though Stony has a net positive +11 FBS players (lost 4, gained 15). Quality is yet to be determined. But, a team can only play so many players, so if some good FBS players want more playing time, FCS is a good option. Stony has 3 former FBS linemen ) two DL and one OL), so transfers aren't limited to just the skill position.

A skillful coach will be able to exploit the portal to bring in needed pieces.

Let's hope the Seawolves' FBS mercenaries  are a little out of synch in the first game of the season. :D
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

The portal is essential now. You can now upgrade an entire roster in one offseason. There were lineman transfers available. If we get blown off the ball upfront game one by Stonybrook its going to be a long painful season. Hopefully that is not the case. Official summer practice should start next week? Will anyone on this board have access and be allowed to provide feedback on practice?

Access is occasional. Providing feedback is up to the practice attendee.

Information such as who is starting/competing at positions, kicking and punting progress, and opinions on the QB battle etc. will be provided when the opportunities to observe are given.

If I can gain access, I’ll do my best to provide such information.

FCS schools can also LOSE many of their key players in a single offseason to the portal. The portal giveth but, as is more often the case for FCS'ers, the portal taketh away. The FCS is increasingly becoming almost like what the G League is to the NBA - a developmental league.

Stony Brook scrimmage
That was awesome!!!

That guy belongs on the set of the Sopranos.

Coach speak, home grown tomatoes, popsicles, beating the he11 out of each other.

We learned nothing, but it sure was entertaining. 😀

agree -it was great- quite a character- I can imagine him pregame and at half time in locker room.
Is he a good coach? I don't have a clue, but he puts Rocco to shame discussing his team.

Gosh, it is almost as though Caribbe’s post (and link to the Stony coach interview) didn’t exist.

2 weeks away

No doubt Stony Brook was a bad football team last
Year but anyone who is expecting a walk in the park win for the Hens up on Long Island should read this chilling reminder from Dan … young man is well beyond his years.

“On paper. Thing is, LaValle Stadium isn't on paper. Just a difficult place to get in and out of on LI (not a shock to TD Club bus riders or drivers). Hard place to play with the layout and the dug-in seating bowl with resulting swirling winds off the water. New SBU QB (starter Casey Case) and remade roster in places. They play well at home; IIRC my own back-of-napkin math, it's 62-30 under HC Chuck Priore at home.

The Seawolves' offensive philosophy has been labeled as pretty run-first or establish-the-run kinda thing, and that's worked on UD in past trips there. I wonder if they'll be more aggressive, even, as a home underdog in season opener.”

Some things to think about Carib. Based on the videos available, Case is the kind of guy that can do some damage if UD lets him sit back and take shots downfield.
Proud to be a F*king Blue Hen :D

Yep, Case looks slender so hopefully we will find out if the young man can take some hits… this will be his first college game so let’s make sure he remembers it and not in a good way

Seawolves are 8-11 the last four years at home. I've been there several times and I didn't notice any difficult situations to play in .
