Very Exciting times. Haven't seen 72hen this excited about recruiting in a long time. Young energetic staff that are good recruiters who are motived to win NCs with the best facilities in FCS are out on the hunt as we speak. It appears help on OL that can play this coming year is on the way. Feels so good to breath some fresh air in Blue Hen football again. Its been 10 years.....72 Hen wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 12:25 pm Official visits were allowed starting January 14. That very first day Witcher made his visit and gave his verbal commit. The more athletes that we get to come to Newark the better. Also, I would think our staff is making home visits as we speak. We still have a few HS students that might commit in February. We will have a lot to talk about. Recruiting is moving in the right direction. Big athletic OL and playmakers!!!

Re: Guys in the Portal
I can remember Tubby making this comment a few years after he retired... "I wouldn't enjoy recruiting today". If Tubby were here today he wouldn't recognize recruiting. The younger coaches have a big advantage today as recruiters. They speak on the same platforms as our college students. That is one reason why I am excited about the youth on our coaching staff. They get it.

Dallas Morning News:
Instead of the College Football Playoff, TCU linebacker Johnny Hodges might have been playing a whole lot of places.
It could have been any of the 65 FBS schools that he bombarded with emails after deciding to transfer from Navy. Or Hodges could have found a home at any of the FCS schools that became his fallback plan.
Well, if they were interested. None were. Well, almost none.
“I was actually looking at it a couple of days ago seeing how far I’ve come,” said Hodges, TCU’s leading tackler this season. “I was reaching out to schools like Villanova, William & Mary and DELAWARE, and schools like that wouldn’t even respond.”
His email was quiet, even though Hodges had started seven games at Navy and ranked fourth on the team in tackles in 2021.
Now, he’s maybe the best example of how TCU (12-1) and first-year coach Sonny Dykes has mined the transfer portal for impact players to reach the playoff and a Dec. 31 game with Michigan (13-0) in the Fiesta Bowl.

Well that’s kind of interesting. Maybe Carty had no interest because he wasn’t a WR or a RB.

Well, Coach certainly was focused on the offensive weapons. The defense, most agreed, was well positioned. Not sure any defensive players were brought in through the portal last year. (Punter Dinkel). Many schools missed this one, he certainly was a good addition to TCU.
Re: Guys in the Portal
Weren’t we stacked at Linebacker? That was supposed to be Rocco’s forte.
Heck, some on here said our D was the bestest (I can’t believe spell check left that alone) in a looong time and our back 7 (or 8, or 9) was all-world.
Double heck…some said all Carty needed to do was bring in more OLs.
So why is anyone questioning why we didn’t respond to a linebacker from (checks notes)…Navy?
Strange.

Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS
Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

It's also possible that the player is just playing up the "disrespect" angle like many of them do. I wouldn't be surprised that he actually never did reach out to any of those schools.Cluck U wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 9:01 pm Weren’t we stacked at Linebacker? That was supposed to be Rocco’s forte.

Brett Buckman has tweeted an offer from Jackson State University and posted a picture of their stadium.

Sanders is gone and they’ll fade back to obscurity…why would folks want to go there?

Re: Guys in the Portal
what's up?- Keyshawn Hunter was listed on the 247sports transfer portal(last updated 4/18/23) as a ?- what? kinda surprised to say the least! Since I don't utilize the portals maybe I'm misreading it.
BTW- there seemed to be a large # of possibilities at DL listed esp 3 stars. or maybe the players listed as uncommitted incorrect?
Also, does the staff simply feel there is little chance to sign any of these guys due to our CAA affiliation/FCS status.
Seems like we could point out that a # of our guys have played in or gotten a good shot at the NFL in the past.
Also, it might be in their best interests to commit to UD to get on the radar. . Competition is tough and immediate playing time is highly possible here. The same selling point should be true for the OL as well.
I'd say, get on the phone till you're "in the door" and don't even consider rejection an issue!! JMHO
Like the Stones sang "you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes... you'll get what you need" Oh yeah

Re: Guys in the Portal
There’s a whole new second wave starting of guys entering the portal now that their spring ball seasons are coming to an end. I’d imagine we will see some of our guys enter as well after some tough conversations are had. Roster is far from complete.tenn hen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 1:19 pm what's up?- Keyshawn Hunter was listed on the 247sports transfer portal(last updated 4/18/23) as a ?- what? kinda surprised to say the least!
