L. Lambert, who splits catching duties with Cockrill and is the number 2 or 3 hitter in the lineup, was hit by a pitch in the first game against Dear Old State and missed the rest of the game, as well as the next two games. Anybody know the extent of the injury?

If I had to guess, concussion. Took a 97 mph fastball to the helmet.

I'm definitely not trying to out-smart our coaches, or even suggest that the traditional approach to using starting pitchers is better than the POD approach, or vice versa. But regardless of how we use our pitchers, trying to win games consistently when we continue to issue 2x or 3x as many walks and/or hbp as our opponents just doesn't work. And like many of you have said, this has been something that has hurt us year after year for quite some time.

Another weekend; another weekend with a plethora of walks being given out. 6 plus a hit batter on Friday, 5 and a hit batter Saturday, 9 on Sunday.

I understand the POD system but dont get it at all. Hard for kids to get into a rhythm when they are throwing 50-60 pitches max. I guess Im old school where we have a weekend starter & then whoever is avail for mid-week.

Through 3 innings at Maryland, Hens have already walked 6 batters, 3 of which have come around to score. Hens have hit 3 HRs and trail 9-7 in the top of the 4th.

Hens score 6 in the 9th to take a 14-13 lead. Shockingly walk the first two batters in the bottom half, who both come around to score and Maryland takes it 15-14.

Can we find a new pitching coach?

We have to be on par for a record number of walks this year. Its terrible to lose winnable games because they cant throw strikes.

Not saying he’s completely not at fault, but I don’t think Sweeney just got dumb from his time at W&M. How about college pitchers throw strikes.

Agree. Pod system or not, job 1 of a pitcher is to throw strikes. 62 walks in 64 innings, 289th out of 300 D1 teams

Big shoutout to Ryan McLaughlin. Hit a guy but zero walks in 3 innings today to start things out against LaSalle. Hens lead 6-1 in the 6th.

What made those 2 walks to lead off the bottom of the 9th even worse is the fact they were issued to the 7th and 8th place hitters in the lineup. Not to mention, we then proceeded to issue a third walk later on in the inning.

Nice start to the weekend taking the first two from a usually decent Rider team.

Best pitched game of the year. 6 strikeouts, only 3 walks and no hit batters or wild pitches.
