Despite the cash outlay, this looks like a good deal for the Bison. They can keep their non-football sports in a regional conference and get to advantage of competing in a much higher-profile and profitable football conference. They should do well in the Mountain West.
FCS has lost half its champions to the FBS since the subdivision began. This has got to hurt for SDSU and UND losing a long-time rival.

Making this move, post portal, with an additional 22 scholarships to fill could be a big challenge for the Bison. In particular, roster depth and talent at the skill positions could be a major issue in 26`.

Still a lot of bodies out in the portal to pick up a few one year rentals to get into the next recruiting cycle. I would expect NDSU to be bowl eligible next year. It's a strong program. Though I totally agree they will have some issues with depth and the mountain west is better than CUSA.
Re: NDSU Likely Moving up to FBS - Mountain West
Perhaps NDSU will continue to rotate one of those two teams into the schedule each year as their FCS game? SDSU and UND might not like not having a home game, but the money should help with their wounded pride.Bluewyn Gold wrote: ↑Wed Feb 11, 2026 6:58 pm Despite the cash outlay, this looks like a good deal for the Bison. A disadvantage of playing just FBS FB in an FBS Conference and all/most other sports in an FCS or nonFB conference is that I believe that it would make it harder to upgrade to all sport FBS conference(s) as long as almost all of your sports remain in an FCS or non-FB conference.

At least somebody is reading my postsCaribbean Hen wrote: ↑Sun Feb 08, 2026 3:49 pmMaybe now that 90% of the Isla will be watching the halftime show today, maybe a Puerto Rico Bowl could gain some traction as Puerto Ricans are introduced to football today![]()
Just call it The Maldito Bad Bunny Bowl
I’ve had a feeling that if the Bahamas could host a bowl game, Puerto Rico would eventually get one
Puerto Ricans that actually live on the Isla have almost 0 interest in college football, but I know they would love a good tailgate and could host a very interesting and delicious one
If there is an excuse for a party, a lot of of them will show up…
No passport required
Drinking age is 18
No tourist have been killed in La Perla for a few months now, don’t even think about going down there
Cock fighting is legal, which makes it almost a guarantee that the Fightin Blue Hens will be in Puerto Rico in 2026

All true
As for who carries cash anymore, Puerto Rico has a huge underground economy, and a lot of transactions are done in cash to avoid the islands not so beautiful tax structure
Whatever teams that actually play in this game that have players making NIL money, you can bet that Puerto Rico is already looking on how to take 20% of it at least
Carty and staff would be on the tax hook as well
If this game could be played in Kissimmee, it would eliminate a lot of tax problems and still be played in “Puerto Rico”

Interesting point from CH about PR possibly attempting to tax NIL or direct player comp earnings. That might be true for US states as well. NFL players have to pay state income taxes where they play away games if that state has an income tax. I remember Joe Flacco, ever the Delaware accounting major, commenting after he signed with Indy that he would not have to pay away game state taxes in TX, TN and FL (all no state income tax states).

States are already collecting NIL tax and California is hitting NIL hard …. I imagine there were a lot of players who were shocked at the amount of money they were on the hook for in Federal and state taxes… at least they will learn something in collegedchen wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2026 6:33 pm Interesting point from CH about PR possibly attempting to tax NIL or direct player comp earnings. I saw an article where Mississippi and Arkansas are talking about eliminating state tax on NIL to help recruiting
