Houser

Not on my bingo card with his injury. Hard to believe a team taking him if he is out half the year unless his injury isn’t as bad as we thought

Of course!

The current situation borders on the absurd, but we will still keep our tickets. That said, nothing should surprise us, going forward

It’s hard to believe that we do not have the resources to retain even an injured player like Houser. He certainly isn’t entering the portal in search of more playing time.

I wonder if it’s actually the opposite. I’m thinking he asked for a certain amount, we said no you’ll be out half or most of the year next year, and one of them moved on.

Well it looks like a new NIL strategy might be emerging, as some lessons learned are being applied for overpaying (several) injured players who couldn’t get on the court in the 2025-26 season.

Lesson 1. Let’s pay the guys who can get on court.

Agree with UDF that there probably is a good possibility the assigned NIL value (weighted assigned fantasy dollars is the example used in the F&F interview) was lower than expected and Houser is seeing what he can get on open market. Maybe he can come back, maybe he can’t.

While I hate using Houser as the Guinea pig for the new strategy (as he worked his tail off to help team by coming back from hip surgery to play at a pretty high level before leg injury)…its probably good fiscal sense in long run. Gotta move on.

Wishing the kid good luck in future!

Let me just say that I was pleasantly surprised how well Houser played last year. Never thought he would have had such a positive impact on the team. Truly thank him for what he gave to UD! I hope he finds a place where he succeeds. With that being said, this team needs to win NOW, and having an additional scholarship can only help as it was unlikely after a significant knee injury that Tyler was going to provide much needed help for this team in 26/27. With more than 50% of Division 1 players in the portal, hope MI and staff choose wisely!

That was fast. Weird but assuming as others have suggested, UD wasn’t paying what he wanted being injured

Dan Earl, the HC of Chattanooga, recruited him to VMI before he left within the SoCon to Chattanooga. The Mocs won the NIT in 2025 before having a down year last year… I’m sure their program has the ability to have a 2-year plan for him. Will be following and wishing him the best, he gave his all to UD

Does Huser have a UD undergrad degree? If not, what would anyone rather have an undergrad and/or grad degree from UD or Tenn-Chattanooga? I have trouble believing that the extra money and/or better basketball experience that Houser may be getting at Chattanooga is worth it.

It's follow the leader. Why would over half the total number of college basketball players be in the portal right now if it were not Money?

There are plenty of students who would trade $5,000 -10,000 of money for more playing time at a step below. I do not believe everyone who enters the portal is expecting more money.
