Hobart: Saturday, 1pm at the Tub

Post by Cluck U »

Folks, 2-7 Hobert is coming into town. Although our records are the same, I think our Hens will take this one.

Senior Day (not the last home game, though).

Not going to go into any details about the game...too little time with family coming in for the weekend.

But...there is a UDee Lego giveaway. Some of you basketball/softball folks might have gotten one for attending those games. Me loves me some Legos (even though it isn't Dick the Chicken)...so Lil' Cluck and I will be in attendance (although there might be an early exit due to the relatives).

Slight chance of passing showers...but the weather will be warm. A good day to get outside and see our guys get a win.

Fun game.

Dominated. Simply outclassed Hobart. Great weather, great crowd. Seniors got playing time and some goals. 41 (sophomore) bagged 4 goals.

UDee was a LEGO knock off, but still a fun little gift (yes, I am 12 and under…on some days).

LILax, Cluck, and others who know lax - it appears that, at the very least, we have been improving a bit over the last few games. Granted, the massive drop-off of the level of recent opponents compared to those we faced earlier in the year likely plays a part in our "improvement", no doubt. That being said, our FO's and Clear % have been steadily getting better and better (we had no place to go but up, I get that). LILax, I believe you have said several times earlier this year that the best we can hope for is to see improvement, hopefully win enough down the stretch to make the conf tournament, and then upgrade the talent level from there so that we can be a top 20 team again in a year or 2. Do you guys feel like this is happening/still possible?

Great warm day for watching LAX. We won a lot of faceoffs. The D has looked very organized these past two weeks. And shots were going in today. How about that Keegan Lathrop with the four spot? Helped us reach double digits. The kind of large Hobart crowd had to face a long drive home with the disappointment. We’ll see next week in Amherst if this is just the competition or if real improvement has occurred.

Congrats to all the seniors recognized today. The time went too fast for many including Brendan Powers.

Congrats also to Cluck who was able to make off with a lego set. :D

Always good running into you, 77. Didn't get to beam down to say hello to the misses. Love that you guys go to games together.

Dang, if family wasn't in town, that would have been a sweet tailgate day. We ended up back home making pizzas in the Fornetto with vegetable and lamb shish kabobs on the grill with the in-laws on a beautiful early April day. Might have to add that dish to a tailgate lineup.

Cali,

It was a mix...the team seems to have settled down and is making better decisions. BUT, that is a lot easier when playing teams that are overmatched...and Hobart did not have the talent or speed to pressure our guys much. We did a better job of clearing (but lost a few possessions right after the clear), but still had a couple guys run into triple teams. D played well...much better slides and communication.

But, let's put it this way, while 12-6 was appreciated, our good teams from a few years ago would have drubbed Hobart +20-4.

The good news is that we have some young guys getting playing time and they seem to be getting a better grasp on things. That can only help us down the line.

The other good news is that we (at 1-2 in conference) still have our destiny in our own hands. We have UMass (9-3 and 2-2) coming up on the road, the Bonnies (0-3) at home and St. Joe's (2-2) on the road. Win against the twin Saints and we are tied for 4th with the tiebreaker in hand. Would love to make the A-10 playoffs in our first year.

Back to the game...happy that Conte had a good day at FO (16-18), but he went up against another freshman who was 0-7 on the year before the UD game (2-14 in the UD game). The other Hobart FO guys, Schofield (1-5 at UD, 65-148 .439 for th year) and O'Buck (1-2 at UD, 6-17 .353 for the year) are also not exactly a fair measurement.

The mental aspect of the game is important, so hopefully Conte can feel good and gain some confidence to close out the seasons last three games on a better note.

Our shooters still missed the target on too many easy shots (a couple of us were shaking our heads), but we put 50% on goal ( - YES!!!) and the Hobart goalie did pull some saves out of his arse. One of the most entertaining plays was when their goalie was racing towards the back corner end line, got the ball while pressured and had no way of escaping...until he casually, while running out of room, tossed an unbelievably (or lucky) accurate behind-the-back pass to his D-man 10 yards away to get out of trouble. He also had a full-run diving save on a wide open net after we beat their ride.

UMass (9-3) will be a test that I am not sure we will pass, St. Bonnies (4-7) should be a win and then we close out with a tough 5-4 St. Joe's on the road. Still a lot to learn about this team and they have three game left to make progress.
