How in the world can UD not have enough money to be near the top of CUSA in hoops? They are mostly 2nd, and 3rd level schools in their own states. And many of those states are poor states. Plus, they are all football schools knocking down another argument.

Coaches navigate stuff, even gargantuan changes like the transfer portal and NIL. It all, or should come down to winning. UD has not done enough.

Gandhi spent the previous three years at Indiana University as assistant director of strategic initiatives (2024-25) and project management coordinator (2022-24). In his roles, he played an instrumental part in the oversight of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) to go along with coordination of postseason travel for all 24 varsity teams.

So this guy is going to play a bigger role in roster construction? What experience does he have in successfully putting together a roster?

My guess is Jason will provide more of the “what’s a player worth” where MI still decides who to recruit . I compare this to playing a fantasy football auction league . You have X amount of dollars to spend so do you use alot on a stud and try and find value guys or spread the money out amongst a few solid players

I agree like no offense to the kid but what the actual f does he know about building a competitive MBB roster? He was a student manager in college. I guess I'm ok with Martin returning, I don't think most of this year is on him with the injuries - it's actually impressive what they accomplished considering the injuries, but he also is what he is at this point

But this Jason Gandhi i dont know, he was here in May this past season and I know transfer portal was already in full swing but still he has had a hand in TWO terrible basketball rosters at this school already and we're essentially giving him more of a role? I'll be monitoring this closely because I'm questioning this job position at Delaware too

LifetimeHensFan, Gandhi arrived at UD in May 2025, so how do you figure he had a hand in "TWO terrible basketball rosters" at UD? The 2025-2026 Men's & Women's rosters must have been pretty well set before Gandhi arrived at UD.

serious question

how is Indiana doing in basketball this year?

I honestly don’t know, but after seeing the Hoosier State unbelievably shift their focus to football because that’s where the money is, I would bet that hoops in the Hoosier state have kind of fallen by the wayside.

So glad to see La Tech lose both of their conference championship games today.

In my 40 plus years of working there was always a never ending quest to have metrics to measure performance. In many cases, they were difficult to define. That’s one of the reasons I love sports. The metrics, at least the most important one is easy to define. It is the won and lost record. MI’s record should be a firing offense if UD is serious about basketball.

Obvious caveat. The focus on W-L is the important metric where coaches are paid to coach. It gets more import as the coaches are paid more. It isn’t the major metric for youth sports and volunteer coaches.

It’s all about resources. How much does UD want to invest in their program to be a competitive mid-major program. I know we will never be a VCU, but these guys invest in their program year after year. Martelli Jr. is a solid coach but wouldn’t have been able to get his team into the NCAA tournament if it wasn’t for his administration’s commitment to their basketball program and their strong fanbase. When their former coach Mike Rhodes left for Penn State he started losing immediately with his new team. The guy didn’t all of a sudden turn into a bad coach. He went to a place that gave him a huge pay increase but doesn’t invest in their program and prioritizes their resources into football. Just wondering if that’s where UD is headed now that we are in FBS.
