Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington tomorrow, no stream as of now and no fans. Sucks, I was planning on watching ESPN+
Thanks for the link, bhbk.

If a lacrosse game is played in the woods with no one around, does anyone hear about it?

Looked around last night after you posted. Got an e-mail at 6:05pm from UD that noted the changed times/dates for the women's basketball games, but ZERO on the men's lacrosse change. :x

UD's marketing/communication with fans...it's almost as though they want to stay small time in college sports. And the decision to not allow fans to watch the game? Ooooof.

I agree about the poor communication by UD to fans. However, I believe that the reason no fans were allowed (and perhaps no live streaming) is that the game was played in the Chase Fieldhouse's AAA indoor Turf Field in Wilmington which may lack the space for fans and perhaps for livestream capability. A FB field is 120 yards long (including both endzones) and 53-1/2 yards wide while an outdoor Lax field is 110 yards in length and 60-70 yards in width. The indoor Trurf Field at Chase Fieldhouse is 100 yards long and 70 yards wide but with probably minimal space around the field. Given that UD lost 9-16 to Utah we UD Men;s Lax fans didn't miss much.

Kevin Brown from Inside Lacrosse did live stream this game on Twitter. The feed was from behind one goal elevated from the balcony. You can watch the whole game @kevbrown89 on twitter if you would like to.

The game was played on a smaller than regulation field (about 20 yards shorter), so the middle of the field was a combat zone, particularly on clears. The Hens had 22 turnovers and cleared the ball horribly going just 15-23. Utah scored 4 breakaway goals on failed clears. The Hens defense looked quite a bit slower than the Utah defense who dictated the pace of the game after the Hens went up 3-0 in the first 5 minutes. BTW Utah actually had more turnovers (23) than the Hens. Game was a sloppy mess.

Hens will need to work on their clearing which looked awful on a regulation field a week back against Lehigh.

Next Saturday is going to be a tough matchup in West Philly against Drexel. I would not bet that this game will actually be played on Saturday since some really terrible weather is heading our way starting Friday. I know that I won't be heading into that garbage dump of a field in those conditions. I have also cancelled FloSports. SO I will need to rely on live stats to tell the story. Odds are the game won't be played or played earlier in the week.

Silly to cancel the game or play it another time. There are guys sledding with their grandkids in this weather...which is the same dang thing.

On a serious note, several cancellations and moved games this weekend...including the Richmond/Maryland game. Apparently, the schools were cognizant of the actual physical threat to the players in such conditions.

Brutal weather, Part Deux, coming next weekend.

The stick thing is one thing if really true. But it just wasn’t too cold at 22 with little wind. But like I also said, only a few people really cared so no biggie. And btw, I was out by the Newark Post Office with several hundred other folks from 5-6 this evening. It was colder than it was during the bright sunshine earlier today. We made out just fine and we weren’t even running around.

Of course you were.

And with a couple hundred other folks, ya' don't say. Which reminds me of someone saying, "only a few people really cared, so no biggie."

And, no...it wasn't measurably any "colder" than the game time. Game time temp was 20 degrees (start) to 22 degrees (finish) ...5-6pm was 22 degrees to 21 degrees. Wind was slightly lower during the evening. No sunshine during the evening, but the ground was warmer...you know, something about the lag time between sunshine and thermal warming of the atmosphere and thermal absorption/radiation. Warmest temps in the dead of winter are from 3-4pm...not noon...an hour or two after the game would have ended but about the same amount before your...athletic event...began. Add in were are over a month from the Winter Solstice. Science..it is a wonderful thing.

Oh, and how many of those folks at the Newark Post Office were dressed to participate in a sporting event? Probably a lot of young athletes in maneuverable clothing running around trying to score (or something) in that crowd...heck, might as well recruit them for the lacrosse team.

PS- I've skied many times in below 0F temps...down to 25 below at Whiteface, Jay Peak, etc. Geared up...but not to play lacrosse. Yeah...same thing. Those wimpy lacrosse guys.

Loves me some below zero skiing. Made for empty slopes and unbelievable skiing. They'd turn away anyone at the lift who had any skin exposed...and anyone who didn't have additional heavy gear. Dopes would argue (But, I stood with some other slow folks in the cold!!), but limbs and lives were saved.

Another tome. It’s not golf season, but par, or maybe even birdie for the course.

And hey. No comments on the stick safety in cold weather? I mean, with such massive knowledge in so many areas, I would have thought there would have been google searches with references provided by now.

And another nod to dreaming of warm weather sports, fishing in a barrel comes to mind.

In addition to the actual temps, the "real feel"/wind chiil temps need to be factored in to get a true idea of what it feels like for both athletes & spectators.

Dang...sorry to hear that.

Randolph and Mortimer might want to check the orange juice futures.

Love ya', BHB, but you need some reading glasses. Pagophobia...not pagaphobia.

Greek origin pago/pagos = ice. Phobia = irrational fear.

Seems an appropriate term since this cold snap has left us with a hardpack of unmelting snow and ice resulting in some people losing their minds. Forget where you live, but here in Newark, it snowed 12 days ago and it looks as though it snowed yesterday. 9 consecutive days where we didn't crack 32 degrees. Haven't had a cold snap like this since the early 1970s.

It was a brutal Winter Session for UD's students and the weather has disrupted several of UD's sport events.

And...we go back into the deep, deep freeze again this weekend...wind chills well below zero for most of Sunday.
