It’s ironic as I’m reading this from O’Hare airport…. Obviously Happy Valley is closer - we’re now playing two midwestern Big Ten teams

Interesting the wording said mutually agreed. Had Penn State canceled on their own, then Delaware would have received their payout for that game without even having to make the trip. JMU had a game cancelled by Virginia Tech for next year and will still receive their $800,000 payout.

PSU’s $700 million stadium upgrade is due to be completed for the 2027 season. I wonder if that somehow played into this.

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post. Saturday’s MBB game against Liberty has changed to a 1:00 pm start due to weather. Previously had a 6:00 pm schedule. Still on ESPN+.

Article by Tres about the UD FB schedule changes notes that the 2 games at PSU were scheduled when UD was in FCS. Estimated payout was $400K for 2023 game. UD got $750K for Colorado game which Tres states is likely now a bare minimum. So it wold seem that UD wouldn't come to PSU in 2027 without a substantially bigger payday that PSU wasn't willing to give to UD at this time.

Couldn't be more delighted to get that PA team off our schedule. My distaste for that program and their fanbase cannot be measured. Clearly nothing and no one are more important than the sanctity of their football program. They've proven that in spades.

Bring on the Illini.

I also like the switch moving the FCS school to the opener next season, before we jump into FBS play. We'll have to start dancing fast a week later.

Totally agree!! Any lesser football program would have been given the "death penalty".

Actually the reports out now lead to UD most likely led the cancellation as UD agreed to compensate PSU the difference in the guarantee PSU is paying Maine above what they were contracted to pay UD

I guess that the higher amount that PSU is paying Maine vs. UD is that they just contracted with Maine to replace UD when the UD contract for 2023 & 2027 was signed in 2022 or early 2023. I am still assuming that UD is going to net significantly more money playing at Illinois even after compensating PSU for the higher amount PSU is paying Maine now vs. the earlier contracted amount to pay UD. Otherwise, it wouldn't appear to make sense for UD to cancel the PSU game to play at Illinois.
