Hens 23-24 OffSeason

Post by Udforever1 »

Great article by KT this morning with his 5 questions for the off-season. On the recruiting thread we were discussing how it may be a weird year, and that we may redshirt a lot of guys similar to Sammy a few years ago.

The more I think about it, the more I hope that we play our best each game. This program needs to keep stacking wins and go into FBS with momentum. Sounds like Carty will do just that.

I too hope we play to win next year and not hold back anything for 2025. The team needs to keep winning and win as many games as possible going into FBS and CUSA.

And for sure, KT has done a great job covering the move to CUSA.

Carty wearing shades in that pic.

Is that allowed?
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Interesting offseason for lots of different reasons. Intrigued to see how Carty and his staff handle it. WIll agree though that we need to get as many wins as possible next season to build some kind of momentum. Now watch us run the table and yet not be eligible for anything haha.

Beating Nova on our way out should be the rallying cry for the season. Start printing t-shirts now!!!

how exactly did that work out for them? not well at all! JMU on the other hand jumped in with both feet and cruised. Granted JMU had talent, but they did not play the transition card and redshirt everyone so they could get ready....That is playing scared IMHO and NOT the message to send to your team.

Good players are not coming to UD to sit. That's not debatable.

Yep, the Program needs to win as many games as possible.

Not sure I'd redshirt a bunch of players. I would be more inclined to get as many as you can on the field with as many game day reps as you can.

Build for the future BUT play for the present.

Kym Wimberly probably would have received a medical redshirt, but has decided to hang it up after a 3rd career season ending injury.

I doubt UD tries to do what SHSU did and just redshirt everyone. Kids come here wanting to play, get and education, and graduate. Conference championships are nice, but as JMU has shown, that's not really the biggest focus anymore in the modern college football world. Just go out and play, win as many games as you can, and generate buzz. For some, that will allow them to enter the portal and move up, which is always going to happen (heck, it happens to teams already at the top as players move from team to team even there). For others it could get them exposure on ESPN or Gameday or something of the like. Redshirt where you need to (kid just isn't ready to play yet and is buried behind someone who is), but otherwise play anyone and everyone. As Wimberly shows, you never know when you're going to be done playing, but for the majority of these players it's when they get their degree here or at another college. The number of kids who still want to keep playing college football into their mid 20's, rather than starting their life and getting on with their careers, is lower than what most people think. Play to win now, that would be my tact.

I agree 100%. Their playing days are numbered and that time flies as we all know. They should be having fun and enjoying their time at UD while trying to win games!

redshirting should be recommended, but not required especially with the 63 scholarship cap vs CAA competition.

Practice hard & play your 4 games. Enjoy the process & earn a masters degree.

^^^^^ That is a good post.

UD has plenty of 4+1 programs where you can add on a Masters degree. The CAA games pose a challenge to the coaching staff…can’t play everyone with the scholie limit. Who do you play? If our scholies are now all full scholarships, you are basically telling 22 players that they can’t play in the 8 CAA games. <—— That is most of the schedule. Crazy. Staff will have to juggle the lineup to keep players involved.

Attention: those who want an accurate depth chart might as well sit out the next two seasons or be prepared to spend a lot more time with your shrink.

Interesting times.

Can you imagine our Hens playing in a bowl game next year? Jax State did it in their first transition year. Why not our Hens?

My understanding, and somewhat confirmed in KT’s article this morning, is that we won’t be at the full 85 just get next year. We will be in two years.

Cluck, Jax state first transition year was last year. Similar to us, they played an all FCS schedule but had 75 scholarships. They are at the full allotment of 85 this year in technically their second transition year, but first playing an all FBS schedule.
