(not just for their lives) will be a huge positive. The bad road losses of the past hopefully are over?
Does Carty football include being 8th in the CAA in 2022 4th down conversions or is it more like the defensive struggles of 2007?

"After four and one-half hours, 118 points, and 1,044 total yards, No. 9 Richmond (8-2, 6-1 CAA) finally survived with a 62-56 victory when Josh Vaughan scored on a 13-yard run to open the fifth overtime period and the Spiders then held the No. 6 Fightin' Blue Hens on downs."
What a simple-minded post.

Carty was as responsible for 2007's defense as he was for our Hens defensive collapse in 1999 against Villanova (a 51-44 loss). Carty came to see a Hens' home game that year (true story).

Carty also wasn't responsible for our Hens defense making bad headlines at the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/1986/12/07/spor ... state.html) in our 1986 55-14 cave-in against Arkansas St, our 52-18 defense getting obliterated against McNeese in 1995, or our follow up 59-14 embarrassment against Marshall in 1996. Hoo-boy, we really knew how to bow out of playoffs games...and we really knew how to give up points.

On the other hand, those complete collapses are proof positive that one can make the Hall of Fame with some bad seasons and embarrassing results.

So, even after not doing well on 4th downs, Carty is still the winningest Blue Hen football coach after any coach completing their first year. And heck...Carty already has two national championships (with KC Keeler) at this level. Tubby, after trying and failing for over 20 years, never got a championship at this level, and isn't ever catching Carty on those stats and accomplishments.

But, enough about the past...time to look forward.

August 31st...time to watch Carty's 9th win as a Blue Hen football coach. :D

Stony Brook, even when not particularly talented across the board, has typically been a tough physical team that has not been a pushover. I expect the same this year. Despite having a lot of newcomers, our talent is significantly higher than theirs and anything less than a 10+ point win would be a disappointment for most of us on this board. I don't think it will come easy (new faces, 1st game, etc.) and I'm not predicting a blowout but I do think a solid win is in the cards. Regardless of who's on the schedule, a conference road win to start the season would be great for us. Get through Penn State in one piece and then take down St. Francis. I don't hold them in high regard but they were a playoff team last year. 2-1 to start.

It’s just funny how not one of those threads was posted the prior decade. But hey, you tell us you like Carty so I guess we should believe you.
I didn't have any problem suggesting Brock's dismissal or Rocco's boredom or even KC's act in the past and I have no problem suggesting that Ryan needs to step up in year 2.
No need to edit the first one, I can take it. Sorry I struck a nerve. Look I honestly could care less whether people like Carty or not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that’s the point of a message board, but the fairness, or lack there of, has been noticeable since he arrived compared to the prior two coaches. That’s all.
I like Carty. What I don't like is a knowledgeable fan like you and others continuing to become upset if we point out his shortcomings. Brock was pummeled and Rocco was constantly belittled . That goes with being a head coach. Carty has done nothing special on the field with a ton of talent he inherited. I won't digress but the numbers don't lie yet all I hear is ..that was his 1st year over and over. We all want the man to succeed but can you actually overlook some of the blunders HE made as an OC and feel secure we have a good future ? Hiring a head coach with zero experience just because he is an alumnus is risky and until I'm convinced we have something special that the fans deserve I'm going to yelp. Throw in the wackadoodles who shadow me and you have an unnecessary conversation.

I'll suggest Ryan will go 8-3 and win a playoff game That will make us all happy. But if he is the same OC he was last season then you're going to hear from me continuously. Get used to it.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to study the SB “talent level” compared to our FBH’s! I guess you are only predicting a 10 point win is due to all the new starters? Thanks Again!

Silly.

Just in case you forgot what I've also said: Tubby was a good coach...I am a big fan. Always wanted to read about our Hens on Monday (and then Sunday, when the News Journal started a Sunday addition)...and Tubby was always good for some funny quotes. And...he won us a championship game back in DII. Good times. Lost some heartbreakers...and also got destroyed too many times. The last 20+ years was sometimes fun...lots of wins and exciting games...but frustrating playoffs losses and no championships. Just couldn't make it over the hump...for a variety of reasons.

But you know all of that.

Perspective.

In the meantime, Carty has a chance to do things Tubby never did.

Keep it rolling, Carty!
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Stony picked 14 out of 15

14. Stony Brook (2-9, 1-7) – While the Seawolves are coming off the worst record of coach Chuck Priore’s first 17 seasons, he’s only three wins shy of 100. They will come more easily if the Seawolves are healthier than a year ago and can reverse a minus-10 turnover margin, which was the worst in the CAA. Buffalo transfer QB Casey Case will direct the offense. Defensive tackle Taylor Bolesta and linebacker Aidan Kaler will keep the defense physical

If the communications shutdown on fall practice from the U of Delaware results in more wins, I think we can live with it. However, if it doesn’t work, they are opening the floodgates for criticism….

Anyway you slice it, the silence can’t be getting the fanbase fired up or adding interest to those on the fence….and they call themselves college boys …. There has to be a balance

Damn, it’s like spending your time in some deep dark cavern and popping out and expecting everyone to be pulling for you and giving you support. Maybe they can get some favorable calls from the refs up at SB. You know nobody likes New Yawkers.

Is it the uncontrolled banter on GoHens that coach is concerned about? Secrets and weaknesses exposed? If so, maybe we could assuage his fears by putting up a super secret GoHens section where everyone is referred to under alias names. You know, to confound the info to outsiders and protect the “innocent”.

Dear Stony Brook fans,

Delaware Scouting Report - from Porta-Potty Reporting.

1) Beware the Swinging Gate. You have been warned.

2) We have a kicking game. Our coaches have been practicing a new-fangled play called a Field Goal that is worth three points...but they are not sure if they are ready to unleash such power. Stay tuned.

3) On 3rd and short, we will hike the ball and take a knee for a 3-yard loss. Carty's O works much better at longer distances.

3a) We have a kicking game. We have been practicing a new-fangled play called a Punt, but we are not sure if we are ready to use it or just run an even dumber play than the one we just ran on 3rd down. Stay tuned.

4) We are fast. Our DL guys have been practicing with the track team to improve their explosiveness off the line. We have also trimmed down to help with the aerodynamics. No more 300lb DLs. We have them down to about 145 lbs so they can squeeze between your OLs. Don't be surprised when you hear our defense singing, "You Can't Touch This" as they swarm your QB and pile on like a bunch of undersized middle schoolers.

5) We have a large OL. Last year, they were nicknamed The Scattered Matadors (that would also be a good name for a band). This year they have been told that they are to protect our QB at all cost. To help, Carty & Co. have contracted with Adidas to line the sides and arms of our OL uniforms with Velcro. It will be a small pocket, but it will be good enough against your guys.

6) This will probably be the last post from me. Once Carty identifies a leak, it gets eliminated. I've set up a fund for our Porta-Potty reporters...they put their lives at risk to give fans the best info. PM me for the account number if you feel like donating to the cause.

Worried. Was hoping one would leap ahead of the other. Usually if you don’t have a clear number one you really don’t have anyone. Hopefully one stands out in real game situations. Reminds me of 2008 after Flacco left. No starter was named as we had no one good.
