I don’t have any rumors but, what if:

The SEC picks off FSU and Clemson. The Big 10 picks off UVA and UNC. UConn decides to remain in the Big East and WVU in the Big 12. The ACC passes on Cal and Stanford.

What next for the ACC? Does Wake VA Tech, Pitt, Syracuse, BC, Duke, Miami, GA Tech reach out to JMU, ODU, GA State, East Carolina? Really?

The ACC picking up the HENs is the equivalent of Bryant going to the CAA. We would really lower that conference and go 2 and 9 for a decade. We need to expand the facilities as planned and get to a 2010 level of team on the field before the ACC is even a dream. If we did it now it would be a nightmare. It would make no sense at all for them to invite us right now even if we could make the move.

If the ACC invited Delaware and that’s a big IF, you accept the offer and worry about catching up later

I'm all for realignment threads that are forward-focused like this, but this is a touch premature :D .

ACC is headed for instability as JD will tell you, but it'll have options aside from any direct FCS institution call-up.

Yeah, but does Stanford have a creamery…or a (n underfunded) sailing club?

By the way, bad news. UD has been growing hops and was looking towards making UD beer. Seriously. That was going to be freaking fan-friendly fantastic. Would have been an excellent addition at our Blue Hen football games.

Unfortunately…no longer. :x UD’s problem, among many, is that they have few long-term plans. Many of their leaps forward rely on professors getting grant money. In other words, UD doesn’t actually plan…they just hope professors can start up good ideas that can lead to UD profits.

Exit professor…goodbye a multi-year effort to start a UD brewery.

Sad trombone.

UDairy Creamery sells ice cream (ask me about the upgrades to the actual processing of the ice cream), meat (from UD’s animals), cheese, wool and honey. They were going to add beer.

WTH? Beer, folks. It would have worked. Home football, basketball, baseball/lacrosse, etc. games. Vita Nova (a secret treasure in Newark). The Marriott (host/partner to UD’s Hotel Restaurant undergraduate program). Plenty of other in-house outlets for UD brewed beer...enough to be profitable. Bummer…

Glad you asked about the ice cream production. All the ice cream this summer was produced in advance. Production halted. New equipment (some from Penn State). Have to bring things up to code. Nobody has the $25,000 ain their budget. Too noticeable to just let fail. Fun times.

Seriously…a comedy of errors. ZERO actual planning.

Also (important), UD continues to defer maintenance (just about everywhere). Adding up. Multiple millions…many millions. State won’t give UD all that money. UD continues to not seriously budget for massive infrastructure problems. Tick-tick-tick.

They LOVE their shiny new things (WAC, new science buildings, etc.). But, something has to give budget-wise.

How will that impact Blue Hen sports? Big question.

However…the good news is that they are trying mead. Too sweet for me, but they are making it out of the honey. I doubt if it will go anywhere big…not like the plans for beer…and will be limited to those of us who can get it by knowing source folks.

In any case, UD has a lot more problems than finding a football conference.

Very little strategic forward thinking at UD. Reactionary thinking only gets you so far. The football foibles are only the tip of the iceberg.

Oh…sorry. Local stuff. Darn it.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

I follow ACC happenings closely. UD is not, nor has it ever, been on the ACC’s radar.

agree but it sure sounds enticing if we could manage to slip in if most everybody left the ACC  quien sabe??
ya gotta have a dream or some inkling of one  Realistically we all know that our best bet is some semblance of an eastern seaboard arrangement of some decent names that would upgrade us into an FBS status that we could build upon and enjoy

Yes, this is a totally delusional thread. Nothing new, though. It’s been going on for years and years.

I would think the AAC would be a more reasonable landing spot, although probably still a long-shot.
A new era for UD sports deserves a new era of thinking. Modernize everything, while keeping traditions in mind.
