Was in South Carolina last weekend. No social distancing or masks. No one cared about virus. More people complaining about the potential for the mask ordinance than the virus. If you want to visit a place close by where you would never know the pandemic is happening go vacation there. Its a great time. Spent all the money I would have in Dewey in Rehobeth this summer in North Myrtle. Governor is making threats in an effort to get more compliance from public with mitigation measures. Too much money on the line for college football. Players have zero risk of death or hospitalization from virus. Chances are they will not allow fans but play the games at least early season. After election vaccine will come out a couple months later, vaccine manufactures will make tons of money, and things will get back to "normal"

Its looks like most programs are doing voluntary workouts and good chance practice begins early August as normal? Anyone got info on any conferences releasing time lines? As of 2 weeks ago it appeared most places were prepping and had a timeline in mind.
Thanks for the viewpoint of a 30 something. Regarding “no one cares about the virus” in SC, you can’t fix stupid. The SC hospitals will be in the news very soon as they are in Texas, AZ and FL. Folks like those in SC are the main reason the college football season is in jeopardy. Oh, and did you see the article someone posted here of the Gov of SC saying the college football season is at risk? I guess this is the price we pay for “freedom”?

There’s currently a lot more than the football season at risk in this chaotic nation.

79- it’s just not South Carolina - Delaware, specifically Dewey and Newark have their own problems. Lots of people are supposedly contracting the virus in Dewey. A friend of our family (20 year old junior at UD) just attended a party in Newark. Within a few days more than half a dozen kids that attended the party all tested positive. If you think UD students aren’t going to party in mass this fall I have some swamp land I can sell you....

You are right bbk. It is FL, TX, AZ, NC, MS etc .... You know all those states that restricted late and eased up early. Which was not the case where most of us live. And all those states where infections are spiking doesn’t have anything to do with college students returning to campus. And with the small spike at the beaches, our Gov took immediate action rather than wait for a catastrophe like those other states. And in some of those states, the Govs can’t even mandate masking. If you think DE’s “problems” are anywhere close to those states, you should not be buying anything from anyone. But you knew all that.

I always thought there would be a lockdown rebellion but not this soon. Look back to the history of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918/1919. Unlike the current strain, the Spanish version was noted for its devastating effects on the young. Like now, there were two waves in 1918, both severe. In early 1919, there was another wave though not as pronounced as the previous two. After that, not much was heard about the Spanish Flu. Did it mutate or just melt away.? The current theory is acquired herd immunity let it die out and I think ,absent a vaccine soon, that will happen here. Many are starting to think protect the vulnerable and ride it out.

To be honest I have not been following the state of Delaware as far as the pandemic and the status of beaches. However if beaches open in Delaware and there is the same attitude toward public health measures, I can see this impacting UD and UD football in the fall. Here's what's happening at the South Carolina beaches.

Ivy coaches said they are going to a Spring schedule and there is probably going to be a ripple effect.
Quotes from article:

“My suspicion is that the majority of presidents in the FBS are uncomfortable with the notion of playing football this fall but for various reasons don’t want to be the first to step out and say that,” the Power 5 administrator told The Athletic. “So, more than anything else, that decision provides the cover they need. I expect it’ll be a big domino.”

...

Those effects have already trickled up to FBS. Patriot League member Colgate won’t be able to travel to Western Michigan for Week 1, and Western Michigan replaced it with Stony Brook last week. Lafayette also informed Navy that it cannot make the trip to Annapolis in Week 2. Fordham is supposed to travel to Hawaii that week as well, though it seems unlikely that game happens.

The Patriot League and Ivy League often move in lockstep, with one Ivy League coach saying, “They’re in cahoots.” Like the Ivy League, the Patriot League is similarly made up of high-academic private schools, and the league didn’t allow its champion to play in the FCS playoffs until 1997. It also didn’t add football scholarships until 2013. Just as the Ivy League moved first on basketball, it’s not a surprise the Patriot League moved first on football.

No surprise, Fordham @ Hawaii canceled. Ivy & Patriot may both wait until spring to play football.

Some D-III conferences will soon announce that all fall sports are canceled.
