With the endowment, is there a similar thing to a force majure that would allow an entity like a university to disregard the donor's instructions in time of sever financial peril?
No and you wouldn't hope for that either. Athletics would be the first place getting robbed (diverted).
I wasn't asking to have the endowment pay for athletics - I'd be more worried about the life of the university itself. Michigan is projecting losses from $500M to $1B for the next year. Granted, they have more means to recoup it than UD does. The schools that might be in trouble are the low endowment schools - they have little cash on hand, they can't make a lot of money in just the interest off of the endowment, and they were already in trouble anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to see those type of schools fold shop and not reopen.

Not much more Chrissi can do from a football scheduling standpoint except add Temple to the mix of future FBS games at Navy, Penn St and Rutgers. Maybe Maryland too.

The Hotel before home games is a no brainer.

The big question is conference realignment and UD just happens to be in the geographical middle of a potential FBS football bus conference.

I get why they do the hotels: get the team focused and find out who might be MIA friday night rather than waiting for no shows on game day. At least the available hote choices are nicer now. Back in the early days of the Golden Era, I think they used Howard Johnsons on S. College.

Also referenced the basketball teams staying in hotels the night before games, like at Towson, which is an hour away. Wow schools seriously do that?? LOL Get on a bus and drive down there.

Realignment is a good idea. Just don't know when or how it would happen. Can you just pick and choose whom to be in the league?

Friend of mine with a kid who plays at UMass is saying they're being told a December start to the season is getting more and more likely. Not sure if FCS would even bother to play a season if that's the case (FCS might be better off financially NOT playing), but that's what the big boys might be planning.

I would be absolutely shocked if we saw collegiate football at all this year.

Just can’t see how they could keep it safe.

Chance of having football fans in any stadium at any level this fall ... gotta be 0%

Chance they will find a way to have some sort of "season" so they can pick 4 teams for a CFP ... gotta be close to 100%

The big boys lost out on the March Madness money; no way they will give up the CFP money too.

Image

Chance FCS has a "season" if the big boys have a "season" ...gotta be close to 100%; one play - all play

My guess; "season" will be very, very loosely defined.

I don’t know - I think there will be some type of season but it will be regional. The SEC will play no matter what - even if they go it alone. The Big 12 is highly likely to play too. The PAC-12 seems to becoming the first league to maybe unravel. They may announce as early as June they’re not going to play non-league games. Opponents of PAC-12 schools are already looking into contingencies with scheduling around that. L.A. County will be locked down for a long time so USC and UCLA are no certainty and Oregon’s governor is as blue as they come.

You’re right that they’ll be money motivated and do everything they can to play a season but even James Franklin at PSU said that if there are schools in their own league that can’t/won’t play it wouldn’t preclude the other schools from playing - maybe he was talking about Rutgers and Maryland.

The proposition of no football would have severe financial consequences for athletic departments cross the country as Olympic sports will end up getting clobbered.

Time will tell - stay tuned.

So I just got a News Journal email & it cites former UD President Harker, who is now heads up the Federal Reserve for Philly saying that Delaware's economy may never look the same & that there's a "strong possibility that many hotels and restaurants will never reopen."

Made me think of the thoughts of many posters who said when Harker was running UD that the football program may never look the same..... :(

This is always a fun exercise but like we mentioned before, UD partnering with JMU, UConn, UMass should be a given in a new American. I think academic parity still plays into any move. Thus, SDSU and Boise St to the Pac-12, IMO, isn't realistic. BYU really is the only fit.

Oh and why would Buffalo stay in the MAC in this massive changing landscape? Add them to wherever UD ends up
Boise is a community college with a stadium, and SDSu doesn't even have a stadium at the moment. LOL.

Wasn't sure where to put this. Merely speculation at this point but the CAA is discussed with Morgan St as a possible addition. Not sure why the writer feels Morgan St would be a great add (small public university, small endowment for starters).

Article says Del St is in talks to join the NEC.

The DelState - NEC rumor has been around for a few weeks. The MEAC seems destined to disband...

Robert Morris leaving the NEC must be happening. Looked at the map and they really are out there alone from the rest of the NEC in western PA. Painful bus rides
