1968 Boardwalk Bowl vs IUP

Post by UD27 » Tue May 14, 2019 5:59 pm

The lineups, coaches, season record and an article by Al Cartwright are included at start of the 1st half coverage. That '68 UD team had Tom DiMuzio at QB, Chuck Hall at FB and Joe Purzyki CB.

Ugh! They cut off the winning drive.

Otherwise, great find and thanks for sharing. The beginning of the first video had some terrific info. Our band was playing all the standards as well. Cool stuff.

Some pretty sweet passing out of the Wing T in that game too.

I agree, that was fun to watch, despite leaving out Pat Walker's game winning catch. It was good to again see the the late, greats Chuck Hall and Dick Kelly running out of the wing-T. Also contributing was #44, Sam Brickley at FB. I talked with Sam in the stands in Durham last fall.

Thanks....

Thanks for posting. That was the year I became a Blue Hen fan. Great to see the old wing-t.

Was there at the game and was really excited about the winning drive. I was also impressed with the IUP team that year and they gave us all we could handle. after looking at the film after so many years i couldn't help but wonder if IUP was that prepared for our offense or the old Delaware Wing T was not refined enough at that time like the way we completely baffled UNLV in the playoffs years later. I sure did like the way we used the passing game to keep the defense honest.

This is one of my all time favorite games and Tom DiMuzzio is one of my all time favorite Wing-T QB's. Thanks for posting.. Someday I hope to see the final drive.

Thanks for posting indeed. My dad took me to this game which was just my 3rd UD game and it really hooked me. Cool to see the Old Wing T in action again.

Wow, it's amazing how that offense has so many similarities to today's Navy teams.

Tommy Dimuzzio also one of my favorites at QB along with the Chuck Hall and Dick Kelly running combo. Also great to see all the gang tackling the entire game. Great come-back win for the Hens. I think I also noticed North Dakota State listed at the top of one of the ranking lists at start of first video link.

If I remember correctly there was a running back from IUP who played in that game and went on to play briefly with the Steelers. I recall a Monday Night game when he ran for a TD and spiked the ball before going over the end line. Howard Cossell was speechless.
