Spring TD Club Meeting

Post by Henzone » Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:29 pm

As always, well organized, friendly and full of Blue Hen football inside info. Thanks JD !

Each of the new asst.coaches introduced themselves to the group and offered their backgrounds, current responsibilities and recruiting area covered. Seemed to me that Ambrose & Cubit where especially excited to be in Newark. Interesting that Coach Cope will add Connecticut to our list of active recruiting areas. Rocco commented that he was looking for coaches with ties to UD and or CAA. He achieved his goal.

Here's highlights of what I heard Danny say this afternoon while assessing the team position by position:

Defense will be 70-30 4/3man . Just the opposite of last season.

Kitchen, Mauro, Burton, Ashworth, Hall & Covatto up front

LB - Reeder, Nickles, Buchanan , a gang fighting for backup

CB- Hill & Henley , Burton & Strothers

S- Plack & Whitehead, Pawlowski & Poindexter.

The Line will be a strong anchor with the back seven young, very talented and very inexperienced

Offense will be faster tempo.

Again, strength will be up front with Farinella's return a nucleus for success. Lots of talent and depth across the board as all injured but Nachtman should be available.

TE, extremely deep and talented. Tyler, DeMaille head the list.

WR- An obvious concern but Coleman & Pitts looked very good and the others have improved the entire spring.

RB- He championed Lee & Robinson and mentioned the others as having a good spring. Nothing said about Spruill.

Interesting note on the special teams is that Plack is competing for the long snapper position. Pritchard is booming the punts and Bonnie & Roth are competing for the other kicking spots

Of course he saved the QB for last and stated we finally have the talent and depth we need with Kehoe playing great, and Henderson getting better every day,Paoletti #3 .

Danny isn't going to say anything but positive words but what he did say made sense. We don't have the individual senior stars we had last season at this time but we have a large number of extremely talented individuals who are only going to get better together as they gain experience.

Transfers will be available after spring practices are completed around the country.

You said Ambrose and Cubit were particularly excited to be in Newark. I get the obvious excitement from Cubit being back at his alma mater, Was ambrose excited by the reputation of the university and football history, or does he have a good feeling about the offensive talent he is getting to work with....Did any of the coaches comment on who has really stood out to them so far this spring?

It has been said by many coaches prior and was said again this afternoon that UD's program is held in high esteem by the rest of the league. Maybe they haven't ever been on gohens. It's the team everyone wants to beat. I'm just repeating what was said, no feedback on that please.

I can only make a guess as to why Ambrose's enthusiasm is obvious in his public comments and overall demeanor at practice. That guess would be non specific to this current team but rather the fact that he has now landed at a place with unlimited potential compared to where he has been previously. I personally like the guy a lot and think he is not just passing through but looking to do some real damage in the CAA.
I also found Danny much more open and non scripted today then in the past. Rocco was most adamant and blunt about the QB situation.

The assistants just offered the info I mentioned as no questions were permitted. I grabbed Cubit after and peppered him to drill Rocco & crew about beating Nova no matter what. He said he had a game ball that he would bring in that week where we kicked the Wildcats azz.

I know this team is short on experience and missed the mark last year but I feel enthusiasm is high already. Will the talent eventually rise to meet that level ....is another story.

Thank you Rick....That's exactly right..I think its an exciting time...We will surely see new playmakers arise...
Summer practice will be very informative...I am anxious to see Coe...I wouldn't count him out as being our kicker based on film I watched....Lets see him in practice.....Many other things to be seen, more than usual.... The stars come out at night.....

The question of the day....

Will the stadium be done on time for DelState?

Answer.... "Well, everyone will have a seat in the stadium and the press box will be in place. Now will it be completely done? Silence and a smirk. "

Regarding the stadium being ready, wait until the 4th of July and you will see a dramatic change.
