Practice #8

Post by Henzone » Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:55 pm

Today marks the halfway point and after Thursday's practice the team will take the week off for spring break. It's difficult to make player assessments based on the limited time in pads , switching of positions and minor injuries but here goes...

DE- Hall & Nickles have been exceptional. Nickles has good speed and sheds blocks very effectively. Walsh & Mauro are backing up and are solid.

DT Ashworth & Burton at #1 are playing well . Hemingway, Nixon & Morris are still progressing .

A big key is Kitchen, who, is out this spring , as he certainly could rotate in at tackle or end and we wouldn't miss a beat.

MLB Reeder is there, nuff said. Buchanan is outside and is a future star. Surprise walk on Zubillaga is battling Darien for the bandit spot. Lots of contenders for the #2 spots across the board.

CB- Hills looks real sharp, Henley plays like the freshman he is. Behind them are Dennis & Strothers . Transfer Burton has been switched to corner as of today.

Safety- Whitehead and Plack are future All-CAA players . Lots of competition behind with Poindexter & Pawlowski @ #2. Pawlowski has excelled on special teams so far.

No sense commenting on the kickers as they will be as good as any in the CAA. The 1st bad snap I've seen so far was today on a punt and was met with immediate attention by the special teams coach.
Lee & Coleman are the returners and have the speed we need.

QB- Everyone's favorite position has Kehoe throwing NFL bombs and Henderson playing laser tag with any receiver under 30 yards. Again, there is limited pressure and that makes a huge difference but we have 3
good quarterbacks moving forward.

RB- Lee looks great and Robinson not far behind. Hansen is quick but not physical at all. We need at least one more , maybe 2 real runners.

TE - 10 yards or less Kehoe is the man. Longer DeMaille can do the job. MJ is huge but slow. Bryce is quick but a tad undersized . Both have good hands. At HB- Tyler has plenty of experience.

WR- I honestly haven't seen too much I've been impressed with. A few good catches but lots of drops. A work in progress. Pitts, Coleman & Haverstrom have shown flashes of what we expect but they're not where they need to be yet. Zimmerman, Amachi have shown glimpses of promise.

Ol - With Robinson & now Ezeuzoh out , it's Lynch ,Kroll, Lutz Farinella & Gilmore across the front. We'll see this summer what we have and if everyone heals the line should be in good shape.

Just as I suggested when spring practice started. Lots of talent yet lots of inexperience and lots of work to to be done ongoing to create the depth we need for a 12 game season.

I think everyone will be excited about our new O & new D . I know I am .

Questions?

No questions, just two comments:

1. Thanks
2. Buchanan is a winner

Really appreciate the practice updates. So...is Gilmore playing center or Farinella?

Robinson is limited wearing a green jersey. Ezeuzoh is in a boot on a scooter.

Surprise walk on Zubillaga is battling Darien for the bandit spot.
The Only thing that surprises me about Zubillaga, is that he received NO FCS offers
out of Unionville HS. The guy was 1st Team 5A All State as an Athlete!

PS - Am I allowed to make a comment on a players High School Career? #AskingForaFriend

There will be a News Journal article coming out soon about #41. Plenty on his super success with the Indians .

Buchanan is a steal. His uncle played at FSU during the Deon years. He said he was surprised he went FCS. I’m glad he did.

When all you have are FCS offers, you don't have much choice!
Offers: Albany, Bryant, Bucknell, Central Connecticut St., Delaware, Elon, Monmouth, Saint Francis, VMI

He could have gone PWO at an FBS institution of higher learning. Scholiies are not chains.

last time I posted on how impressed I was with Noah Plack I was chastised for talking up a player with so many schollies.... :D

I dont even look at how many schollies offers they have, just what I can see in my little window on Saturday.....

HZN, We both see a player in Johnny Buchanan

always dangerous to make a prediction based on a handful of plays but Johnny Buchanan looks like he is going to be a real good LB, Ill say he will be better than Charles Bell which is pretty good

Good call Caribbean. He definitely showed flashes last year. Looks faster and stronger than Bell.

Carrib- Did you really go back through 5 months of posts so you could pat yourself on the back publicly ?

Funny we never hear of any of your missed predictions.
