Kevin does a solid job. There is only so much a guy can do and there was lots going on last weekend. He had the name and the date nailed and I'm sure we'll hear more from him.

He has also been very kind to me. After the National Championship I moaned how I had no access to the commemorative paper....and he mailed me one. Thanks, KT, I remember!

Yo K keep up the great work He and Marty are outstanding as well as straight shooting guys.

Know what their talking about. Look forward to the very soon to come article of the hirings of our new Coordinators

and hopefully with some positive spins on them. I do however wish they would get more space to write more articles

Those 70 sport pages were a little more extensive

And where have you gone Jack Chevalier?

I can remember the NJ before Gannett took them over. They had a pretty good sports section that has been severely downsized in content and personnel over the years. The "sports" section today is barely four pages and a lot of that is professional sports scores and racing results.

Yeah, I saved a lot of the NJ articles from back when I played in HS in the late 1960's & the local coverage was much more in depth then it is today. Marty Levin (sports photographer for the NJ back then) was a good friend of my parents so everytime he came to take pics for the paper, he made sure I was in them. The NJ has definitely changed but I guess alot of it is due to the fact that the NJ is struggling today.

If the rumors are true, then I can't see how on Earth people are going to complain or not be positive (though I am sure that some folks--namely from/in Baltimore--would have issues). Brock will have stuck to his word to "go back into UD's past" and hired 2 candidates that even those who hated how HE came on board previously endorsed.

Holy crap, I open this site up & we're at war over newspaper coverage?

Let me clue people in to the 21st Century: The Print business - newspapers & magazines is a quickly dying business. If that's where you goto get your information - wow, just wow. If people missed it - a local business staple just closed a few weeks ago - Newark Newsstand.

There are so many mediums (electronic) to get information today, some of you seem like you're still stuck in the 1970's. What day does the paperboy knock on the door to collect?

If you feel badly for those readers of the WNJ who are looking for UD athletics content, just imagine what it must be like for the writers of the UD athletics content! Season after season of awful men's basketball, more subpar football seasons than good ones in recent years. Talk about being asked to fill column space with nothing for content! It's a freakin miracle that desk isn't a revolving door of high schoolers looking to pay for gas money with a side job.

I don't think anyone's "at war." I think one person made a dopey comment, as so often happens, and it spiralled from there. While it's true that print media is dying, the initial comment pertained to a writer who has information available online in a variety of forms you allude to.

KT does what he can with what's given to him (and yeah, like '05 said, the guy's gotta sit through an awful lot of garbage from the "marquis" sports). I owe him a public apology on Brock--he had it nailed, and I doubted him. My initial reaction was one along the lines of "blind squirrels...", but that's the wrong knee-jerk reaction to have for a guy who did his job well on this occasion. I still think he sensationalizes things a bit too much for my liking, but that's just my own opinion, and he HAS to do it to bring readers in...even to his online column/Twitter/etc.

In Henroids youth people paid the newspaper to run a classified ad .... today people run a free on Craigslist. And thats just the start of the ad revenue drain for all print media.

Less ad revenue = a smaller newspaper = less coverage in every section. KT actually got Rick to devote a lot of column inches the last 2 weeks to UD coverage.

I was a paperboy the day JFK got shot. The NJ sold for 32 cents/week back then. The day JFK was shot was the only day that I can remember when every homeowner was outside waiting for me to deliver their paper.

Bill, of course that's right. Then again, a large majority of people haven't relied only on hardcopy print media as their sole, or even main, source of coverage since the advent of TV, but it still remains a viable and important industry, particularly with respect to the coverage of local/state news. In the absence of Wilmington metro TV stations and with a dearth of actual radio reporting, where should the Delaware public go for bona fide, sourced info on local events & stories, including the Blue Hens? Are any local pimple-faced reporters operating blogs out of their parents' basements serving the critical function of public watchdog to the degree that print outlets like NJ and, to a much lesser extent, the State News do?

Baltimore Hen is someone who's had the audacity to call BH fans "cheapskates". Now he's complaining out of the other side of his mouth about not getting the exhaustive news content he demands without paying for it. Ironic, huh?

I remember there being a morning News Journal and the Evening News Journal in the 80s when I first moved here

Hey Foghorn, I think Finkle was saying "it isnt the Newark News Journal (NJ) its the Wilmington News Journal" and not referring to us as Newark, NJ.

HF- Be very careful about using the word "viable". Hell, it was just in the news over the past 2 weeks about the Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News potentially going under and looking at an imminent sale again and/or big-time slash.
