I thought he was OK, but not exceptional. For those 'oldtimers', I preferred Ed Maley. Sabol, IMO, was the worst.

Obviously I think Coach Arians has a bit more experience and insight into his capabilities then the gohens coaching staff. I personally liked both Maley & Sabol though.

Cohen was a better DC in my opinion.

Rapone is also a long-time crony of HC Arians. Coaching d-backs, as you know, is not nearly as demanding as DC. I wonder if he'll have the DB's play 10 yards off the line/

All I know about Arians is that Tubby schooled him big time and he was instrmental in imploding his will on Temple AD Casale (i think... who hated delaware as well) to drop delaware

I think we've had some outstanding D coordinators at UD and you can make your own decision as to who belongs where in the rankings but Rapone , I feel, got quite a bit of undeserved criticism on here . He went to great lengths at a Huddle to explain his philosophys and how he was out to stop the run first and recruited big, agile lineman rather then speed rushers. I think he did an admiral job.

As for Tubby, he schooled a lot of good coaches over the years. It was pure hate for the Owls and the Wildcats for us, Joe C!!!

Good news for a very good man and a very good coach. I was hoping he would be a carryover but when I ran into him a couple of weeks ago he indicated he was already looking for a new job. I liked him more than most I guess.

+1... Coach Rapone was a football coach in the truest sense of the term. He seemed passionate about the game and was a tough, professional, man. He inherits a good D from Ray Horton in AZ.

All the best Coach!

well it depends on how you look at it. You can be a good coach for sure, but your goodness may not be suited for certain things. I think the PAC-12 and USC fans (see USC guy blowing a gasket on youtube.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsG88I8vAPE) would say that Monte Kiffin is a bad coach, but it is well known that he is well respected in the NFL. Rapone may be better suited for the pro player.

Balt Hen-He did pretty well with the College players too. He was an excellent teacher. Something often taken for granted and something many of us miss.
