On paper, a horrible hire - nothing speaks mediocrity like a life long assistant that produced minimal results. But I say I'm going to give him a shot. Certainly not invigorating the program, nor do I think he'll be a meaningful change from the prior CEO, but as the old addage states, "plan for the worst, hope for the best."

That's actually the one thing Brock has going for him - the majority of people are going to go in with low expectations.
A new era starts for UD Football.

Like I said a few days ago, attendance might be up a bit this season as eveyone wants to see the "New Direction" Hens. But as the polish wears off the turd, we'll be right back where we started, or my bet even worse. Admin refuses to address the real issue: They killed the golden goose with their handling of long time fans.

Unless Ziady changes things and has the athletic department "sell tickets" I see the decline continuing. The UDAF isn't going anywhere. Look at last year's strategy as they created the 110% club. Why do you think they did that? Well two reasons: 1- Most people contribute at or near the minimum at each level of giving, 2- They forecast, properly so, a further decrease in season ticket holders, which meant less UDAF revenue coming in so they tried to minimize that loss.

I was a 110%'er last season, if I had to pay today I'd be paying the absolute minimum required. I think Harker has done a lot to fail this program.

And that's the problem with this hire and with this approach. What happens on the field matters close to nothing in terms of reinvigorating the program. Brock may end up being a very successful coach and since I'll be watching, I sure hope he is. But he could go 15-0 three seasons in a row and it still won't fix the problems with this program - people don't want to come anymore, even when the team is winning. And the coach on the sideline matters extremely little in that analysis. It isn't fun to go anymore, the atmosphere is dreadful, the cost to go is exorbitant, the teams we play are boring, even the prospect of playoffs fails to generate a pulse amongst the faithful anymore (see UNH 2010 quarterfinals), and the diehards who left because they felt disrespected with all the changes aren't coming back because we hired an assistant from Rutgers who was close to being fired there. The stuff on the field matters little to this program right now. And yet it's the first thing the AD addresses. It better not be the last thing.

mlaxlurker: A bit off topic here, but after all, we are talking about coaching changes. Why has UD mlax not progressed further? We are in the middle of the prime recruiting area, play in a great facility for lax, and we have been largely bouncing around. Very disappointing that the 2007 final four appearance did not move us forward.

Now, other schools are starting the program. What would it take bring the sport back on the upswing? New coaching staff? Nothing personal, I know we have a good guy running the program. But, it consumes a lot of resources and seems to bring little "to the table".

Maye after mbball, maybe this should be the next focus for Z-Daddy?

He better get it done quick or the leash is gonna get pulled hard by this fanbase.

It's bit niave to think this hire wasn't a forgone conclusion after EZ got the job.

Recently, sadly, yes. It's tough for a 3 hour round trip to come down and see a shell of what UD football was, and not even that long ago. The difference in that place now versus 5 years ago is night and day. Something that was a thrill to take the kids to has now become almost like a forced march. Maybe you can't see it through video streams or on TV, but the thrill is most definitely gone, both inside and outside the building, and it's like that regardless if the team is winning on the field or not, hence why this move matters little in that regard.

The biggest cause for concern with MLAX is the same with UDFB. We're in a constant state of limbo, regarding conference affiliation, commitment, support, identity, ect. and it has more to do with the AD Administration not having a plan or vision for what they want the program to become rather than any coaching, recruiting, or gameday execution issues.

I mean, save for EDD transfering, what UD Athletic Program has any identity or recent string of success? I can't find one...and so hiring and firing coaches is just a band-aid to a much bigger and concerning problem.

I'd like to see the list of what other candidates they considered in this "national search" prior to choosing Brock.

Might as well throw in the towel and rehire Steve Steinweidel to coach the b-ball team.

Hey Rock take a breath bro we will be just fine....

Why dont we wait and see...; The man has his work cut out for him. We wer 2 and 6 in conference play i believe. And that is a conference that was way down. If it wasnt for the 3 cupcakes it could have been worse. Yes we had injuries but many other factors led to this.

Lets get some playmakers (maybe they are already here. I believe the o line needs a major upgrade. I believe speed absolutely positively

must be improved. If any of you think we are on par just go watch the Nova beatdown again. Warning its actually harder to watch the second time

around. Its not often I have watched a UD team quit. They did on this day. I disagree with you respectfully Gannon. When we start reeling off victories I

think the fans will come back. Maybe I am wrong. If we play lights out run a play every 20 21 seconds Make the game a little more fan friendly and they will be back.

Me I have a real good feeling about this..

It is going to take time. We were a very modest football team... Give the man a chance.

of course the first time he punts from the opponents 32 Ima freak lol
