Interesting choice of words saying he didn't take the "easy way out". As this hire looks more like the case of a first time AD making the first hire of his entire career and "taking the easy way out" by hiring someone he knows, rather than someone he hasn't worked with, but who's resume indicates he is more qualified, competent, or successful.

mlaxlurker: A bit off topic here, but after all, we are talking about coaching changes. Why has UD mlax not progressed further? We are in the middle of the prime recruiting area, play in a great facility for lax, and we have been largely bouncing around. Very disappointing that the 2007 final four appearance did not move us forward.

Now, other schools are starting the program. What would it take bring the sport back on the upswing? New coaching staff? Nothing personal, I know we have a good guy running the program. But, it consumes a lot of resources and seems to bring little "to the table".

Maye after mbball, maybe this should be the next focus for Z-Daddy?

The biggest cause for concern with MLAX is the same with UDFB. We're in a constant state of limbo, regarding conference affiliation, commitment, support, identity, ect. and it has more to do with the AD Administration not having a plan or vision for what they want the program to become rather than any coaching, recruiting, or gameday execution issues.

I mean, save for EDD transfering, what UD Athletic Program has any identity or recent string of success? I can't find one...and so hiring and firing coaches is just a band-aid to a much bigger and concerning problem.

As far as I know, the program is fully funded with scholarships, and committment to the program was shown by moving the games to Delaware Stadium. Bernard Muir obviously supported the program. The costs are high, with very little revenue generated except by donations. The ROI is poor. FB generates revenue, the crappy MBB shares in conference revenue, and the WBB had a following and ticket sales before EDD came along.

I like MLAX and have supported it financially im the past. However, this program and Title IX make it difficult to see a path to FBS football.

Not the answer you probably want to see, but men's swimming and diving has been doing a nice job up on north campus over the past 3 years. Olympic Trial and NCAA qualifiers, (individual) conference champions, rewriting the UD record books, kicking a*s in the classroom. They'll never make anywhere close to the amount of noise some folks on this board require to be judged "successful," but (from my biased viewpoint) they're hardly a debacle.

Now then...back to football.

+1

This is an issue with many of our Olympic sports. Very little funding and very little support in general. Many have mentioned this issue before, but I really do not get the sense that there is a vision that functionally translates to " Ws" on the field of play. If we move to any D1 conference as an entire athletic department,we will get absolutely slaughtered in many of our less funded sports.

Hiring someone you can control and over whom you lord is easy. Getting consistent Ws across the board is something else.

around. Its not often I have watched a UD team quit. They did on this day. l

score tied 7-7 with 8 minutes left in the second quarter - Nova with the ball and they go for it on 4th and 1 - #3 gets bowled over and the play goes for about 20 yards - I only saw one DB that came to a game to make a tackle, he'll be back by the way. Oh yea, that 4th and 2 punt from the 32 yard line stamped the season for Delaware with the word quit...... signed by the head coach
Dr Ben Carson..... my role model. Too smart to be a Republican and to honest to be a Democrat.
