NJ says it's Brock

Postby UD27 on Fri Jan 18, 2013 1:19 am

NEWARK — Rutgers offensive coordinator Dave Brock is expected to be named just the fifth head football coach in the last 74 years by the University of Delaware today.

Players were told Thursday they’d meet their new coach today.

And so it begins....with state of our men's bball program and Della Donne graduating this year, I'd say that Brock and our new AD are joined at the hip. If Brock doesn't make it he could taking him with him. Not all that pleased with the choice especially this being his first HC job and coming off a year at RU where he very well could have been fired doesn't instill much confidence. However, I'll support our new coach regardless of who it is.

If Brock doesn't take this veteran team deep into playoffs this year, they need to can both him & Z-daddy.

Call me underwhelmed with Brock, an assistant at many schools, a star at none.

I agree that Ziady may be tied at the hip to his new coach with this decision. I hope it works out but I can't escape the mountain of skepticism.

I'll pose this question: a buddy of yours asks you this weekend "hey I heard Delaware hired a new coach. What do you think? Tell me about him. What's your answer?

I can't imagine people being overly pumped with this.....sigh

Everybody needs to wait and see what the man produces.

I've been around long enough to know: (1) 'great' hires can turn to $hit, and often do; (2) curious hires can work out well; (3) it's hard to predict how an OC/DC's track record translates into HC production.

At least the guy should have a quick grasp of the talent requirements to be successful at this level. That'll be refreshing.

Why do you say that?

Looks like Brock is the new guy...you cant make any conclusions now. Lets see how the commits react. Hopefully they stay with UD. If not, its understandable IMHO. Will be interesting to see how his staff looks....... Brock has never been a HC but that doesnt mean he cant be successful. But this is a guy that completely tied to the AD's past connections. We will find out if it is a good selection...

Please some of you stop the whining!. A lot of people in Philly are complaining about the "dream" coach they just got. We're not alone. Brock will be the first coach we ever had from the bigs and I think he knows what kind of talent we need to succeed at this level and I don't mean getting a lot of it from transfers. Give the guy a chance....Pleez.

Cronyism plain and simple! This was not a national search as put forth from Z-daddy.Someone interview Tubby on this hire- would be interesting.Path to prominance was short path it went all the way to NJ.This selection will fill the seats I'm sure

Let's give him a chance. I'm a Blue Hen fan through and through and as long as he wins and runs a clean program it will be a great thing.

Am I thrilled with this pick? Heck no, his record just is not all that good, but we will see. Cronyism? Maybe, in fact it looks that way but I genuinely hope I am wrong.

If he wins this year it will be interesting if we hear any of that "he won with KC's recruits". If he loses the opposite excuse will be given.

He deserves a chance and 2-3 years to build up the program as he sees fit, with the staff he wants.

Did the new AD strain credulity on this one, yes. But I will honestly give him a fair shake as we all should. Truth is NOBODY knows how this will translate from his past experience. I hope he wins, runs a clean program and does not job hop on his success from here.
